Phil Lesh 'Shadow Of The Moon' Winter Tour 2005

Phil Lesh has gathered a new group of Friends for his 'Shadow Of The Moon' Winter Tour. Lesh will be joined by Chris Robinson, Jimmy Herring, John Molo, Mookie Seigel and Barry Sless.

The tour will focus on the East Coast making its way only as far West as Chicago. As Lesh's website indicates:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to play New York City this tour but we're planning some special shows in New York City and Philadelphia in February. We look forward to making music with you again soon.

Phil and friends need to come down south more often. I mean phil isnt gettin any younger and will only be only the road for only a few more years. I cant travel due to schooling situations so i would like it if he came to say...TN or NC or maybe even GA (which he has dates for coming in december). I love ya Phil but there are so many heads in these states that cant come to all your shows.
Peace and love

What about the west coast!!!
To think of it, Phil is really starting to make me think that his book gig or something has gone completely to his head. He's not making the Jerry benefit b/c he needs to take his kid to college. But the only schools not in session right now are in New Orleans...plus most kids I knew wanted their parents to dissappear as soon they got dropped off at the dorm.
And no offense to Chris Robinson and Ryan Adams or their fans (they are both wonderful musicians in their own right), but c'mon these guys aren't even close to being representative of what the jam scene or GD is about these days. I went to all the December shows with Chris R. singing and they were not very stellar to say the least. It was too big a band to focus on what each other was doing. Same thing with the Mardi Gras show, too much show not enough jam. Why not bring new up-and-coming musicians...like he did when he played with Al. The shows with Al were better rehearsed and tighter (and I'm not even a big moe.fan).
Cheers for including Sless and Mookie from Devid Nelson band. But i guess I shouldn't care anyway considering they aren't even entering my time zone with this tour.

Just so you know rpmills, ryan adams is very well educated with the grateful dead movement and music. He has been known to bust out beautiful dead ballads such as bird song, wharf rat, and gdtrfb at his personal shows and so in the words of ben, before you knock you must try it first, for youll see ryan adams as a blessing not a curse. Phil was so impressed with ryan's newest album, cold roses, that he personally got in touch with him and invited him on the road. Trust me Ryan knows what he is doing, p.s, go pick up COLD ROSES, its the best album of the year hands down.

No Coloardo Love, Come on. And I have to agree with rpmills, I like Chris Robinson singing but I can't see him sounding good playing dead songs. Little dissapointed with the friends. Am sure the shows will be good but I don;'t think this tour will compare to other tours with better friends like Kimock, trey, Warren, page etc...

Chris Robinson is a wonderful singer and one of the few people I have ever seen on stage that has PRESENCE. To say that he is not representative of the scene (whatever that means) is just not right (educated). The Black Crowes are one of the hottest bands going right now and Chris is THE MAN. Kudos to Phil for convincing him to come along for the ride once again.

first of all, there are plenty of schools that are still not in session, they are called schools on the quarter system, not semisters.

second of all, why are you bitching that hes not playing near you when you are bitching about the lineup? so what if he was coming to your town, you think chris robinson sucks anyhow, so why would you go? who cares if they are the best thing, or the best up and coming musicians in the "jam scene" or whatever, it must be who phil enjoys playing with. if you started your own band i sure as hell bet you would play with people who you enjoy playing with, not people who "are better for the scene"

i love seeing phil and support whatever musicians he enjoys playing with. i thought the mardi gras show was a great time, and although hes not coming out west this tour, just wait for new years (san fran) but you prob. wont go anyhow, cuz you think the music sucks. stay at home then and leave more dancin room for those of us who are goin to enjoy ourselves and get down!

Though I haven't seen or heard Ryan Adams with P&F either in person or on recording, I loved what Chris Robinson brought to the music. Actually this lineup is about my ideal for Phil at this point. Jimmy has always been a favorite and Barry is awesome. The December run at the Warfield was some of the best Phil I've heard since the heyday of the Quintet. Mardi Gras was more of a party than a great show, but what's wrong with that. I'd love to see these shows but being in CA there's no chance of that. I hope he brings this lineup to the Warfield for a warmup.

I love CR singing with Lesh. Outstanding. IMHO, Robinson does the songs the most justice of anyone who has played so far with Lesh. These shows are going to be rocking. If you don't believe me, check this out: http://web1.nugs.net/phil/04dec.asp?artist=19&show=322&cmd=shows

Right on!

rpmills, man... that is the whiniest post i've ever seen. how can you complain about them "not even entering your time zone" when phil hasn't toured the east coast since the dead were here in summer 03? you even admit to having seen all of his recent west coast shows, yet you still want to complain... somehow it even bothers you that he's being a father and taking his son to school. what planet are you on, brotha.

I'm glad to see Phil mixing it up...who knows what will happen. I'd love to see Phil grab Vince Welnick for a tour or two, he has some serious piano skills and would love to see them crank out some nugs. Check out Vince with Gent Treadly who have really become a strong band here on the East Coast. Anyways, whatever happens, I'll be there to see Phil. Add on Vince,Hornsby and Bobby and shit, we have a real happening going on. Invite Trey too, always wecome. WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG! STOP THE WAR! IMPEACH BUSH! Peace~ spacebrotherbry@yahoo.com

Feelin' good here in Pittsburgh about being a part of the tour. The spring 2001 show at the Palumbo is a fond memory. One of the best shows I've seen in that hall and a personal Phil favorite.

I had a feeling my post was going to stir up a little controversy. Okay, I apologize for the online venting. And yes, I admit it was a bit whiney. However, here is my reasoning behind what I wrote. (Remember everyone, it's just my opinion, we don't ALL have to like everything we see and hear. Part of being a fan to me is evaluation ...i.e. "in my opinion, this 11-02-95 version is better than 1-14-77").

That said, I think Phil's excuse for not doing the benefit is a copout. Even if his son is going away to school next week...I believe it's really about problems between Phil and other remaining band members...hmm why wasn't there a 40th anniversary tour??? (again, an opinion not a statement of fact)
And like I said before, both Chris and Ryan are great musicians, I was NOT knocking them but rather Phil's choice to include them. To be simpler, I'd rather see other friends. In the past, Phil seemed to pick up friends that were more closely tied to the jam scene. Some might of you might think that Ryan and Chris are closely tied to the jam scene, however I disagree...so shoot me.
And as far as people, saying Phil has not "toured" the East coast, well he was just there on a book "tour"...just kidding, bad joke. But really he has not brought a "P&F tour" into the west coast since 3/29/02. (Although in 2003, he did three shows at Warfield (9/25-9/27) to warm-up for his tour that began in November (11/14) in Denver. That is the closest a "P&F tour" has came to the Bay since '02.) Granted yes, us folks in the Bay Area do get sporadic shows, which I cherish...i.e. Phil sitting in w/RRE, or the 4/20 show w/Melvin and Co. I also cherish the shows I don't particularly like, such as the ones I mention in the previous post. Why?? Because, they make the great ones, excuse me the shows I think are great, even better.

And if I don't like a show in the future, or maybe the direction I think a particular band is going...I'll be sure to keep it to myself since some of you folks can get used to the idea of a dissenting opinion. (Here I go again with the venting.)
All that said, i love Phil and he is entitled to play with whoever he "enjoys playing with",as Jason0525 said. But that does not mean I have to kiss his ass and praise everything he does.
(Oh yeah, FYI Jason0525, I never said Chris sucks and in the future if you quote someone, try making sure they actually wrote what you put in parentheses.)

Phil+ CR = a good time! stop hatin on them. Phil is just adding more acomplished musicans to his long list of friends. Hell i would love to see some vince and hornsby action. that would be cool. i cant believe my fellow heads are disapointed at phil's choice of vocals. eveyy single line-up of PL@F has been amazing. i cant wait to see where he will go next.
Peace my friends and enjoy the tour

Cant wait to see phil on this tour, i was a little weary of CR when he first came around, but he does a great job and phil seems to really be enjoying himself on stage w/ him, anyway see you guys out there! Oh and the dead toured on the east last summer so phil does come around now and again.

I wasn't big into Chris Robinson singing with PLF, when I first heard that was the case last Christmas, but after hearing all those shows, I think he is probably the best singer the band has ever had...and especially after hearing Ryan Adams this spring, I think this tour would be such a treat. I'm happy for all you out there on the East Coast, you'll have a blast for sure, and for those of you on the West Coast, don't complain, at least you're not up in Canada, where Phil hasn't played for over 20 years...You got to see them less than a year ago. If anyone has reason to vent, it's me, but I'm just happy he's playing and looking forward to hearing some stellar recordings.

Soo Glad Chris Robinson is back in the mix, last years Warfield run is now legendary in my mind. I personally did not appreciate Ryan Adams and his horrendous butchering of songs we know by heart and love dearly. He is a mediocre guitar player a best, let Jimmy Herring have more solo time(and Berry Sless).Peace

I dont like Chris Robinson. Dont say I am not a true music fan either!! I am an old school dead head, but when I saw CR on the David Letterman show, I had to turn it off. He sucks. and he is ugly too :)
