Cubensis keyboard wizard Tom Ryan to fill some big shoes within Dark Star Orchestra's Dead tribute starting July 9.

After the potentially crippling loss of band co-founder Scott Larned,
Dark Star Orchestra is getting back in the groove with Tom Ryan from
Cubensis filling in on keyboards. Larned passed away in April due to
a heart attack. Both bands perform popular and successful tributes to
the Grateful Dead.
Dark Star is currently auditioning full-time replacements while on
the road and will head back out in July. Selected to join the band
for this segment, Ryan plays the Hammond B3 as well as sings so the
group should be able to recreate some eighties shows this tour as
well.
For their part, Cubensis has performed as a Dead tribute in Southern
California for 18 years, and Ryan is known for his ability to nail
Brent Mydland's vocal and playing style. Mydland was the Dead's
most prolific keyboardist and vocalist before his untimely death in
1990.
"Tom's our secret weapon," said Cubensis bandleader Craig
Marshall, "so he will be missed, but this is an excellent opportunity
for the rest of the country to enjoy his playing." Tom will return to
Cubensis in early August.
DSO's next show is July 9 in Davenport. The tour takes the band
through the Midwest before some summer festival dates (All Good
Festival, 10,000 Lakes Festival) and ending with five shows in
Colorado.
Cubensis continues to perform in the greater Southern California
area, with various guest keyboardists, during upcoming shows as
follows:
Saturday July 2 - Gallagher's, Huntington Beach, CA
Sunday July 3 - 14 Below, Santa Monica, CA
Tuesday July 5 - Noon show, Pershing Square, downtown Los Angeles
Tuesday July 5 - Marlin Bar, Huntington Beach, CA
Saturday July 9 - Pitcher House, Hermosa Beach, CA
Saturday July 16 - Classic Rock Fest, Libbey Park, Ojai, CA
