MR. A-Z (out July 26) is Jason Mraz's pseudo-self-titled second album. And though it certainly has elements of a sequel to his debut, Waiting For My Rocket To Come, Mraz and his band, along with producer Steve Lillywhite, have created something that touches on more of the aspects that have made Mraz such an adored artist of today's music scene. "Wordplay" showcases the humorous persona that until now he'd only used in his live shows; born as a joke, it is the first single and is meant to sound exactly as so. It's a straight satire on what a first single should sound like, making a masterful mockery of his own agenda, beating the average critic to the punch. "Clockwatching" utilizes programmed beats and vocal delays, resulting in a fun sonic tribute to the Cure and the bands that followed them. "Life Is Beautiful" was inspired by electronic duo Zero 7, simmering and psychedelic.
These 12 songs recognize the events of Mraz's last few years, in which he left the coffee houses where he was raised and was thrust into the theatre and arena circuit with the success of "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)." This album will please audiences from both his caffeinated roots as well as those from his recently discovered jam band scene.
