Fresh off their sold-out run through the northeast, culminating at their New Year's Eve show at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom (capacity: 3,600), at least two members of The Disco Biscuits have wasted no time in 2005. In January, bassist Marc Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner unveiled their new electronica band, Conspirator, aboard the Jam Cruise 3 festival cruise ship (other bands included Les Claypool and Galactic).
Grammy nominated producer Matt Stein is currently mixing Conspirator's guest-laden debut album. But the big news is a live collaboration with Total Eclipse (X-Ecutioners) who will join the group this August at Hedonism III in Jamaica. The performance will be part of the weeklong Psytopia Festival, also featuring the Roots' Rahzel, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, and Ozric Tentacles.
Total Eclipse will also appear on Conspirator's album, along with Joe Russo (the Duo), Cheme (Robert Walter's 20th Congress), and Jake Cinninger (Umphrey's McGee).
Conspirator elaborates on the work that Brownstein and Magner do with The Disco Biscuits, pushing it further into the electronica realm. The live presentation is a dance-oriented combination of thoughtfully composed songs and tracks, touching on styles from down-tempo to psychedelic-house, trance, and drum and bass...
Several key Conspirator dates in the U.S. are currently in the works and the album is slated for release later this year.
