SaveJodi.org is a non-profit website created for a two fold purpose; the first is to help raise funds for Jodi Monogue's liver transplant surgery and post-surgery medications, in conjunction with the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). The other is to help raise awareness regarding this serious killer which is so often misunderstood. Many people, when hearing the terms cirrhosis or hepatitis, immediately make the assumption that the sufferer is an alcoholic or a drug user. This is patently untrue. There are about 100 different causes of cirrhosis, and only a few are associated with alcohol. There are many exotic forms of the hepatitis virus (and new ones are being discovered regularly) and again, only some of them are related to drug usage. Many babies and children that never had a chance to take a drink or misuse drugs are struck by liver disease. Often the only treatment is a full liver transplant.

Jake's Toadhouse (jakesroadhouse.net) at 2272 Lawrenceville Highway in Decatur, GA 30030 is trying to raise the awareness of the deadliness of these diseases, and to also raise money to help save Jodi's life and aid in defraying the huge costs associated with doing so. A number of artists and organizations are lending their aid in creating a day long, family friendly event.

Jodi Monogue of Atlanta is facing a challenge she cannot meet alone. As many of you may know, Jodi has dedicated her life to helping others. Prior to her illness, she worked as a legal case manager and mitigation investigator for a prominent criminal defense attorney on death penalty cases. Jodi wrote and taught numerous classes for her local church, to which she dedicated the last 25 years of her life. She raised two loving sons and recently became a proud grandmother for the first time.

And Now Jodi Truly Needs Your Help

In December of 2003, Jodi collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. After much testing it was determined that her liver was no longer able to do its job of removing toxins from her body. After several weeks of not knowing whether or not she would survive, Jodi rallied to a significant level, and has been maintaining for the last several months.

A liver transplant is Jodi's only chance of survival. She desperately needs the help of her family, friends, church and community in order to get through this difficult time of her life. However, funding this type of surgery is a monumental task, as Jodi is uninsured. In order to meet these costs, a campaign in Jodi's honor has been established with the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). NTAF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the transplant community for the past 20 years. If you wish to help Jodi, you may give a tax-deductible contribution to her fund.
