New Orleans, LA, September 18, 2004:
For its second year, SoberJam is uniting to recognize and celebrate recovery from alcohol and drug addictions in Louisiana, during September, the month designated as National Recovery Month.
SoberJam is a statewide celebration expecting to attract 15,000 people from across Louisiana to a day of entertainment, food, festivities, and support. The event will take place on Saturday, September 18 from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. at Marconi Meadows in New Orleans City Park. September 18 has been designated as Louisiana Recovery Day through a special project coordinated by the WeRecover Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization headquartered in Baton Rouge.
WeRecover.org and HopeNetworks.org founded this all day, drug free, family event, held each September during "National Recovery Month." SoberJam 2004 will feature two stages with all day music, a Health and Community Information Fair, and Louisiana foods. SoberJam entertainment will include performances by George Porter Jr., The Charmaine Neville Band, Marva Wright, Rockin' Doopsie, the rock band Zebra, Jennifer LeBlanc, and Greenhouse.
SoberJam is free and open to the public. National, state, and local community service providers are encouraged to sign up for booth space. Transportation is available across Louisiana communities. Interested persons should contact their closest location of the State Office for Addictive Disorders, or contact WeRecover directly at 1(888) 472-0786. Healthcare providers have the opportunity to sponsor the event and feature a booth for $250.
"SoberJam is expected to grow this year, marking progress for the recovering community," says Samantha Hope Atkins, WeRecover Executive Director. "By providing a safe, sober celebration, SoberJam hopes to unite thousands to celebrate recovery."
