Summertime is fast approaching and with it comes the annual explosion of New York’s volcanic music scene out into the streets, parks, rooftops, and… waterways? Yeah, that’s right--the rock and the roll, the boogie and the woogie come to the waves as the Rocks Off Boat Cruise series launches its third season. And as you’d expect from the crazies at Rocks Off, it’s bigger and better than ever before. Only Rocks Off dares to ask why the fun and the funk must be contained to terra firma, and then does something about it.
There is nothing quite like winding down from those sweaty summer days upon the The Half Moon Boat with a cold drink in your hand, the crisp breeze off the East River in your face, the lights of Gotham’s greatest architectural treasures lighting your way, and the sounds of some of today’s finest screaming all around you. Could there be a greater expression of this country’s freedom than staring straight up at the Statue of Liberty while Rana rocks your world so hard that Lady Liberty herself starts shaking her booty? Does it get any more transcendental than passing under the Brooklyn Bridge while New Monsoon broaches your sanity? And will you need a passport to get back on land when Garaj Mahal takes you so far to another place as the boat circles the island? Could there be a better skipper than Patterson Hood?
There’s a full summer’s worth of shows aboard the old Half Moon, but just in case you weren’t satisfied with that seaworthy rock club on the waves, Rocks Off has added a second boat to their rockquatic fleet! The Temptress has its own full slate nasty enough to have the Coast Guard on full alert. The Bad Plus, Rebirth Brass Band, and Umphrey's Mcgee will point the Temptress’ heading straight to your soul. Forget your sea legs, you’ll need to get your sea brain in check for these sure-to-be-unforgettable nights.

Like tribute bands?? Of course you do! Rocks Off has ‘em on both boats--you can finally live out your fantasy of rocking out to live Van Halen while riding the waves with Unchained on the Temptress or sing along with the “ultimate” Beatles tribute, Strawberry Fields, aboard the Half Moon. The list goes on--there’s something for everyone on this seafood menu.
Manhattan is surrounded by water--doesn’t it make sense to spread the groove offshore? Rocks Off thinks so! So don’t get stuck on land: get that sailor’s outfit out of storage and make like gangbusters to the water. The Titanic of the Rocks Off Boat Cruise is about to hit the iceberg of rocking out and believe me, you’ll want to go down til the end with this one.
