Zack Smith, Reggie Scanlan, and Bob Compton have traveled our rhythmic nation from New
Orleans to Red Rocks capturing the pulse on film. Scanlan, who is perhaps best know as
founding member and bassist of The Radiators, began taking pictures as a hobby and has developed into a
professional with a keen eye. His unique position as performer and documentarian takes
the viewer behind the scenes in the world of music.
Compton, who grew up in a different kind of L.A. (Lower Arkansas), has followed his heart
and his lens to New Orleans and beyond. His still photos of New Orleans musicians are in collections all
over the United States. Lafayette Louisiana native Zack Smith has used the lens to
document the streets and stages of the city for the past four years. Smith contributes
regularly to JamBase and Relix Magazine, and you may have seen his work
featured at Centeroo during last year's Bonnaroo. His bromoil photographs add a more
colorful in-depth look into the sounds that surround New Orleans, and add a painterly
aspect to his musical imagery.
The exhibition opened Saturday, April 17 with music by Brian Seeger (Moore and More, Quintology) and Cassandra Faulkaner
to a packed house. The celebration continues with a Jazz Fest Kick Off Party
on Thursday, April 22 with music by the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars.
