Tipitina's Uptown proudly presents the Third Annual Instruments A Comin', a spectacular all-star benefit concert featuring a unique lineup of New Orleans artists including Galactic, Cyril Neville & The Uptown Rulers, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan Neville's Dumpsta Funk, Troy Andrews & Orleans Ave, with Donald Harrison, and Big Sam's Funky Nation. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. on April 26th and go late into the night. A cultural festival will take place on Napoleon Avenue with brass bands and Mardi Gras Indians, artists, food by Dunbar's Creole Cooking, and a silent auction featuring many donated premiums, all of which will raise money to purchase instruments for New Orleans school band programs. Tipitina's Walk of Fame honors New Orleans artists who have made significant contributions and are presented with a plaque that resides on the sidewalk outside the club. Tipitina's will induct Bruce Daigrepont, host of the 15-year-running Sunday Cajun Dance Party, and brass band heavyweights the Rebirth Brass Band to the Walk of Fame at 8:30 p.m.
All door proceeds from Instruments A Comin' will be used to provide musical instruments for the band programs at John F. Kennedy Senior High, John McDonogh Sr. High, and Robert Mills Lusher Extension. New Orleans Music Exchange (3342 Magazine Street) owner Jimmy Glickman will use the proceeds from the event to purchase instruments for the schools. Tipitina's has created this groundbreaking benefit to enhance music education in New Orleans public schools and ensure that New Orleans' unique musical heritage will continue for many generations.
The Tipitina's Foundation is proud to welcome the Whitney National Bank as a co-sponsor of Instruments A Comin' 2004. The Whitney National Bank will be making a substantial cash contribution, in the form of a partial matching grant, which is funding the expansion of this year's Instruments A Comin' program from two schools to three.
The Tipitina's Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing New Orleans public schools with instruments, giving music students a broader exposure to the music business, and raising the awareness of the New Orleans music legacy and the need to preserve it.
