Mountain of Venus by Vik Vikers

Considering their winter/spring tour schedule, it is no wonder that Mountain of Venus has been referred to as "road warriors." Last week they made their way through Georgia and North Carolina, playing five dates in five days. In that time, they dealt with challenges like snow, canceled shows, and a flat tire, with the patience, grace, and humor expected of road warriors. Highlights of the week--for band and fans alike--included a large, impromptu party in Athens to take the place of the canceled Gainesville, GA gig, and a packed show in Greenville, NC. The week also included a moving set in Black Mountain, NC, featuring "sit-ins" from Reverend Jeff Mosier on banjo and David Blackman on violin during "Steps to Betterment" and "Yet."

Mountain of Venus continues to grow as a band, maintaining a relentless schedule of touring and playing, yet putting forth great energy and great music at every show. They continue to prove themselves as musicians and as a vital part of the jam scene, playing a house party with the same feeling with which they play to a packed bar. Their older material changes and develops, with songs like "Over the Sky" and "Hideaway" often highlighting a show, and leaving the crowd in awe. Their well-chosen covers breathe creative life into familiar music, and their new songs show limitless promise and originality. The creative development of this band is what has caught the attention of musicians like Steve Kimock, David Blackman, and Jeff Mosier, and each member of Mountain of Venus is quick to admit their admiration for these musicians and their excitement about playing with them, as well as their enthusiasm for their fans and the crowd reactions to their music.

Mountain of Venus will be on the road nearly every day for the next two months, traveling through the Southeast, Midwest, Northeast, and then south again. Highlights of this lengthy trek will include the band's last two shows at Chester's in Fayetteville, AR, a favorite venue of this band (and many others) that is celebrating its last days, as well as triumphant returns to the band's former stomping grounds in Colorado and the Northeast. With so many opportunities to see Mountain of Venus, and the promise of great music and good vibes each and every show, there is no reason not to see this band!
