Under the moniker The Mardi Gras Allstars, George Porter Jr., Eric Krasno, Ivan Neville, Jay Rodriguez, and Russell Batiste, invade B.B. King Blues Club in NYC on Fat Tuesday for some unadulterated funk!
When folks think about Mardi Gras they probably think of New Orleans and great music. Well this year folks will be thinking about NYC and an all-star cast of N'awlins musicians pairing up with some of NYC's finest. During Fat Tuesday this year at B.B. King Blues, people will experience the thunderous New Orleans threesome of George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, and Russell Batiste. Those three men have major roles in the nationally recognized acts of the funky Meters, The Neville Brothers, Papa Grows Funk, and Vida Blue. Not too mention these funky three will be joined by Eric Krasno of Soulive, and Jay Rodriguez of Groove Collective.
In analyzing this lineup one would think that such a show could only take place in New Orleans. Not this year! The last time Porter, Neville, and Krasno shared the stage was in 2002 in a one-off project called The Concept. Saying that it was well received is an understatement. People, promoters, and record companies are trying to make it happen just one more time. Since then Ivan Neville joined Soulive for a tour and George Porter Jr. filled in as a temporary bassist for Gov't Mule.
This show is not to be missed because, like The Concept, it is unlikely that these five will ever perform in entirety again!
