Superfly
Productions and A.C.
Entertainment are proud to announce the initial lineup for the 2004
Bonnaroo Music Festival. Confirmed acts include The
Dead, Bob Dylan,
David Byrne, Dave
Matthews & Friends and Trey
Anastasio. The third annual three-day camping and music festival will be held
on June 11-13, 2004, on the same 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles
south of Nashville. A full list of confirmed acts follows, with more to be announced
in the coming weeks to round out the festivals 60-plus acts.
With an increasingly adventurous lineup, Bonnaroo continues to grow creatively
while retaining the core concepts that launched it. With Bonnaroo alums like
The Dead and Trey Anastasio returning, the 2004 festival welcomes
veteran icon Bob Dylan for the first time. Dave Matthews will also make
his first Bonnaroo appearance with Dave Matthews & Friends, an all-star
band with Tim Reynolds and Trey Anastasio. The festival lineup also boasts a
fresh crop of performers in a variety of styles and formats, including Nigerian
afro-beat star Femi Kuti, singer-songwriter Damien Rice, reggae
veteran Burning Spear, and rock iconoclast David Byrne. There
are also prominent country artists such as Willie Nelson and Gillian
Welch, and hard-hitting rock bands like Kings of Leon and a reunited
Primus. Other returning acts include moe., Galactic, Govt
Mule, String Cheese Incident, Medeski Martin & Wood, North
Mississippi Allstars and My Morning Jacket. Bonnaroo fans appreciate
great music of all kinds, says A.C. Entertainments Ashley Capps.
We want to reinforce that sentiment with adventurous booking that builds
on a solid foundation of grassroots rock. With a lineup that nods equally
to tradition and progression, Bonnaroo unites a specific cultural movement while
expanding its horizons with influences from an infinite spectrum of styles.
Attractions and activities in a variety of formats make Bonnaroo a complete
entertainment experience that surpasses the traditional rock festival setup.
The event will once again include an array of attractions and extras. In previous
years, Bonnaroo has featured adornments like a huge lighted water fountain,
amusements like the Globe of Death motorcycle stunts, and
the musical novelties of the Cover Band Tent. The festival site is a
bustling virtual village, complete with an Internet café, an arcade,
a cinema tent, and dozens of high quality food and craft vendors from around
the country. While keeping many favorites from the festivals first two
installments, Bonnaroo 2004 will introduce some exciting new surprises. Festival
organizers will continue to utilize its corporate partners resources to
add additional attractions and benefits for the fans. Our goal is to continue
to create the ultimate festival experience, says Capps.
Quickly established as the premier American rock festival, Bonnaroo won the
Pollstar Festival of the Year award in its inaugural year. In its
second year, Rolling Stone called it The American rock festival to end
all festivals. Since its inception, music fans have responded feverishly.
Bonnaroo 2002 and 2003 both sold out in less than three weeks through the festival
web site, with no traditional advertising. The festivals wild popularity
has spawned a series of innovative media projects, including three volumes of
Live >From Bonnaroo CD compilations and two DVD documentary companions.
With the announcement of Bonnaroo 2004s initial lineup, organizers, artists,
and thousands of fans are gearing up for another magical three-day music experience
in Manchester, Tennessee. Now in its third year, the festival is a focal point
of the summer concert scene and a cultural happening like no other.
Tickets for the 2004 Bonnaroo Music Festival will go on sale Saturday,
February 21st at 10:00 AM Eastern Time through www.bonnaroo.com.
