Gent Treadly hits the road this week for dates in Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut with former Grateful Dead keyboardist and regular collaborator Vince Welnick.
Welnick, who has been digging deep into his songbook for vintage Dead material as well as songs from his Missing Man Formation album, recently said, "Gent Treadly is actually one of the heavier groups that do the Dead. It's a case with less being more. They're a three-piece band covering six of seven members' parts. Sometimes they also have a female singer Anastasia [Rene, who has performed with Percy Hill], but primarily Gent Treadly is a trio, but they belt it out pretty thoroughly. Gent Treadly is a very cool band, fun to hang with and really good guys and there is nothing much we couldn't do."
The fun continues the following week when guitarist Jeff Mattson of the Zen Tricksters will join Gent Treadly for their holiday gig at A&M Roadhouse in NYC on Thursday, 12.18 while drummer Ari Hoenig (Jazz Mandolin Project, Joshua Redman) will be on the skins for Gent's Boxing Day show in NYC on 12.26.
Greg Koerner, Gent Treadly's bassist says, "As a bunch of old Deadheads it is always a pure joy for us to play with Vince. It just keeps getting better. As for Jeff, I have been admiring his guitar playing for nearly two decades--with the Tricksters and I also used to sneak into the old Fore n' Aft in White Plains when I was underage to see his old bands--so it will be a real thrill to share the stage with Jeff and have him shred over Gent Treadly's repertoire! Similarly, Ari is a world-class jazz drummer and we are really lucky to have him join us."
