Lettuce ain't for wimps. If you like your dressing on the side, don't come and see this band. But if you like sweat, sawdust on the floor and dancing then Lettuce is for you. This 8-piece groove collective brings together some of the best young musicians today and are nothing but funk. Eleven years in the making, Lettuce features Eric Krasno, Neal Evans and Sam Kininger of Soulive, drummer Adam Deitch from guitar legend John Scofield's band, Squad guitarist Adam Smirnoff, keyboardist Jeff Bhasker from soultronica sensation Kudo, saxophonist and founding member of the Rustic Overtones Ryan Zoidis and producer Erick Coomes. This Boston based band came together at the prestigious Berklee School of Music Summer program when the guys were the ripe old age of 15. Soon enough they were taking over clubs and jam sessions in Boston, storming the stage wherever they went. Since then, the guys have all had successful projects of their own. But despite playing in various bands over the years, Lettuce has always embodied the purest essence of their musical tastes.

With their latest Velour Recordings release, Outta Here, Lettuce comes raw: no fluff, nothing smooth, just hard funkiness. Combining the grittiness of the Meters with the harmonic textures of Herbie Hancock, the album is completely true to the music. And as if it couldn't get any better the guys were joined on the album by heroes such as guitar great John Scofield, trombone legend Fred Wesley and Soulive organist Neal Evans. This performance will include special guest Neal Evans, who will be sitting in with the band all night. Neal received his formal training at the Manhattan School of Music and is a member and co-founder of Soulive. He has reinvented the B-3 organ, fusing jazz with bumping hip-hop and soulful r&b. The independence between his hands is jaw dropping: the left freaking bass lines, right blazing solos.

Lettuce is a simple outgrowth of a bunch of great young musicians who grew up together - and we're glad they found each other. Don't miss these kids rip it up in San Francisco at Cafe du Nord on Friday November 14th!
