Fresh off two nights at San Francisco's Fillmore earlier this month, Yonder Mountain String Band will begin their fall East Coast and Mid West tour on October 31st at Portland Oregon's Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The 23-date run will be in support of Old Hands, the Colorado-based bluegrass quartet's third studio album released earlier this year on Frog Pad Records.

With the release of Old Hands Yonder Mountain String Band marks a departure from their experimental bluegrass to a more traditional style. Coming in at #5 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart, making it Yonder's best debut yet, Old Hands was produced by Grammy nominee and renowned dobro player Sally Van Meter and features an array of special guests including bluegrass greats Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien, Darol Anger, Casey Driessen and Dirk Powell.

Additionally, all lyrics on Old Hands were written by fellow Coloradoan Benny Galloway; best described as a "true mountain man," Galloway has spent his last 30 years as a cutter and buyer of cattle. The band has always had great respect for Galloway as a writer and was proud to be able to put his lyrics to their music for the album.

Most recently Yonder Mountain String Band was featured on the new Bubba Sparxxx album Deliverance. Marking a watershed moment in popular music, Yonder's song "To See You Comin Round" (from their previous studio album Town By Town) was extensively sampled on the Sparxxx track "Comin Round." Mixed with Timbaland's trademark beats, "Comin Round" brings hip-hop and bluegrass together for the first time, creating a new brand of fusion and as YMSB once again takes the genre where it has never been before.

Since the inception of Yonder Mountain String Band in 1998, the band has made huge strides both with their music and grassroots approach to marketing. All of the band's affairs are handled in-house; from the label, Frog Pad Records (distributed by Ryko), to management, booking, and street teams. In just five years Yonder Mountain String Band has made a jump from playing local Colorado coffee houses to constantly touring and selling out major theatres and clubs throughout the US and abroad.
