The Bill Graham Foundation and Rex Foundation, long recognized for their support of art and music programs for youth, presents a festive evening of food, entertainment and silent auction. Proceeds from this event will benefit music and arts programs for youth locally and beyond.
The Rex Foundation aims to help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults everywhere.
The Bill Graham Foundation was formed in November of 1991, following the death of the legendary rock impresario, Bill Graham. The mission of the Bill Graham Foundation is to give grants primarily in the areas of music, the arts and education, while also supporting social work, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. In this spirit, the Bill Graham Foundation seeks to assist those whose needs are oftentimes not served by larger philanthropic organizations.
Worlds Together, an evening to celebrate collaborations and connections, brings together for the first time, the energy and vision of two great organizations: The Rex Foundation and Bill Graham Foundation. Appreciating what they share in scope and mission, the two foundations are pleased to collaborate to support much-needed art and music programs for youth. A feature of this event will be the silent auction of music memorabilia. Tickets include dinner, which will be served from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. with a no-host bar.
Mickey Hart is best known for his nearly three decades as an integral part of the extraordinary soul and music of the Grateful Dead. His tireless study of the world's music led Hart to many great collaborations and unique experiences, which he readily shared with his audiences. A tireless social activist, Mickey shares Rex Foundation and Bill Graham Foundation's vision in supporting the Arts and Music programs. Mickey will perform with Bobi Cespedes and as "Mickey Hart and Friends" including Marley's Ghost.
Wake the Dead is a Northern California septet that uniquely blends traditional Celtic music and the songs of the Grateful Dead. Delighting Deadheads, folkies and adventurous music lovers, Wake the Dead captures the melodic beauty, lyrical depth and timeless quality of the Dead songbook masterfully performed with great traditional Celtic instrumentation.
Bobi Cespedes mixes Cuban traditional music with contemporary elements, from r&b and funk to dance beats. With her elegant and powerful voice, Cespedes offers an intriguing musical mix, which does not sacrifice either tradition or innovation in the process. Come dance to the Afro-Cuban beat of her seven-piece band. Bobi's work with Mickey Hart's Planet Drum and Bembe Orisha bands is well known to legions of fans.
