It was more than three years ago that Gov't Mule (and the music world at large) lost an absolutely huge talent and man. The Mule could have died with Allen Woody back in late August of 2000, but Warren Haynes, Matt Abts and Danny Louis took to the road not with one bassist, but with several of the scenes most respected and talented low end men. Included in this rotating line-up were Dave Schools, George Porter Jr., Oteil Burbridge, Les Claypool and many more. As Haynes said, "We've been fortunate to have many amazing bass players tour and record with us, when we played with Andy Hess - it felt like a band."
Andy's past experience included work with The Black Crowes, John Scofield, Joan Osborne and Britney Spears. Hess was recently quoted as saying, "It's a real honor and privilege to play with Gov't Mule. Allen's are some big shoes to fill, but I am going to try to put my own stamp on it. I am very excited about being a part the band."
Starting on October 3rd at The Backyard in Austin, TX, Hess, Haynes, Abts and Louis will be hitting the road hard with "The Rebirth of the Mule" tour. This 30+ show tour will be in support of the bands latest release, The Deepest End featuring 32 tracks from their historic 2003 New Orleans JazzFest show on May 3rd at The Saenger Theater.
