Diversity is an aspect of life that can separate the mundane from the magnificent, it can be the spice of life, the prairie in the prairie fire shot, well you get the point. In music it is extremely significant and may be the deciding factor in whether or not an event can have the reach it needs and the success it deserves. The 4th annual Walther's Grassroots Festival is rich on such an assortment and has gone to great extents this year to cover a multitude of tastes.

Jeff Austin from YMSB by Adam George
The past three years this festival has focused primarily on the bluegrass and jazz sides of music and relished in this fusion. This year the festival will bring front-runners in the areas of reggae, funk, pop, bluegrass, and roots rock among others to offer the greatest variety in this festivals history. This festival welcomes established and lyrically potent Rusted Root coming off their fourth record Welcome To My Party. Les Claypool will bring his prominent bass as well as his Frog Brigade to stage. Very special guest and reggae legend Jimmy Cliff will supply a plethora of reggae beats to those lucky enough to attend. Yonder Mountain String Band, a very melodic bluegrass based band that has come on strong as of late will be on hand, as well as Jah Works, Maktub, and Carbon Leaf to round out the bill. The festival will also offer an array of food, arts and crafts, and microbrews.

The festival will take place on Saturday August 9th at scenic Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Maryland. Advanced tickets are available. For more information visit www.walther-productions.com. Company founder Tim Walther has had a long heritage for putting on quality festivals and creating a symbiotic relationship with the fans, the music and the surrounding area. Very seldom do we see occasions for a single day of music that encompasses this much distinction and multiplicity. So everyone out there in Jam Nation do yourselves a favor and grasp life at the roots and always go see live music.
