Watch out folks because Will Bernard and Motherbug are hitting the road and taking no prisoners. Starting March 27th Will embarks on a tour that takes him from the West Coast to East Coast, backed by two distinct and different touring ensembles. Stretching from Santa Barbara, CA to New Orleans, LA, the tour will feature stops in OR, WA, MA, NY, VA, NC, GA and MS.
Backing Bernard will be a bevy of top-notch musicians. For the West Coast run Paul Spina, from the funky San Francisco band Cannonball, will be keeping the beat on drums. In addition to Cannonball, Paul has been known to tour from time to time with the one and only Les Claypool. Assisting him in laying down the foundation, and also hailing from Cannonball, on bass is the little known, but wildly talented Ryan Newman. Last but not least, rounding out the lineup is Will Blades on organ. Will has been making a serious name for himself recently in the San Francisco area and has been recently seen touring with Ryan Adams. One special note about the tour: Attention San Francisco peeps, mark your calendars for April 7th Will and company will be at the Elbo Room with special guest Eric Krasno from Soulive sitting in.
But don’t worry East Coasters Will has something in store for you folks as well. Hitting the road with Will on the East Coast will be a whole new lineup of musicians. This time around we have Marco Benevento (of the Marco Benevento & Joe Russo Duo) behind the organ and keys. Marco and Will are old buddies from the Otherbug days. If you haven’t heard of Marco, the truth is, one might suspect that you have been living under a rock for the past year. Taking the reins behind the drums is Gabe Jarrett. Gabe has toured internationally and recorded with the Jazz Mandolin Project. In addition to teaching percussion at Goddard College and the University of Vermont, Gabe has performed with Michael Ray and the Cosmic Krewe, Gordon Stone, James Harvey, Peter Apfelbaum, The Jazz Passengers, Karl Berger and many others. Will has some tricks up his sleeve for you lucky New Yorkers. It all goes down on April 15th at The Knitting Factory. Some of Will’s friends will be coming down to sit in and it looks like a certain "duo" might warm the crowd up.
Though Will may not be visiting a city near you, music lovers partaking in the festivities of this years Jazz Fest will have ample opportunity to catch Will out and about. He’ll be performing multiple dates with Robert Walter’s 20th Congress as well as numerous "super jam" type shows with the likes of Stanton Moore, Clyde Stubblefield, Jessica Lurie and Robert Mercurio, just to name a few. Don’t miss your opportunity to see Will in action, you won’t regret it.
