"...a pinnacle in the modern amalgamation of ethnic musical styles."
- Downbeat | November 2002

Joining edgy, innovative piano leader for a rare Bay Area performance are two legendary percussionists: one Headhunter; the other, a young lion.

Badal Roy, who is the first Indian Tabla player to “westernize” the drum from its classical context with Miles Davis on the pioneering fusionfunkjazz album On The Corner, will be in the house. On The Corner was aptly titled because Miles created this danceable, groovy fusion music to get jazz back to the streets, back to the youth of America at the time (1972), and to everybody! It is what jazz is truly about: an improvisational American art form like no other.

Percussionist Airto Moreira will be performing with Michael Wolff & Impure Thoughts for the first time. Airto provided the sound color for the legendary band Weather Report. His percussive merriment should be heard by all and his spirit will definitely be felt! Like Michael Wolff says, “I don’t want jazz to be a museum piece."

In addition, add Headhunters alum Mike Clark on drums and now you’ve got one hell of a night of jazz music! And let us not forget the youthful reed player John Ellis. John has been one of the hottest horn players in NYC since joining the Charlie Hunter Quartet two years ago.

And let us not forget about the legendary John B Williams, who will be “rooted to the center of the earth” as Wolff Says on Electric Upright Bass. John B. currently tours with the last true jazz diva Nancy Wilson. He is also an original member of IMPURE THOUGHTS.

To have this group of musicians together in one place will prove enlightening and inspiring for everybody, no matter how old you are, what color you are, what you do, or where you live. Friends, this is a night which legends are made of. It’s a show not to be missed. Pianist Michael Wolff is not to be missed…

McBride has become the most acclaimed acoustic and electric bassist to emerge from the jazz world in the 1990s. His CDs on Verve as a leader and the literally hundreds of albums he has performed on showcase his funky style and big tone. His ever-expanding pop, R&B and fusion palette has taken him around the world. He has performed with numerous artists including Joshua Redman, Sting, Chick Corea, The Roots, Diana Krall, D'Angelo, Betty Carter, McCoy Tyner, Roy Hargrove and Wynton Marsalis. With his new Warner Bros CD Vertical Vision, McBride continues to establish himself as a true master of the bass.
