Steve Kimock sees musical creation as a principally additive process: by layering rudimentary beats and tones in imaginative ways new vocabularies of rhythm and harmony emerge that, potentially, transcend the traditional boundaries of music. With a fearless taste for adventure, the Steve Kimock Band applies this fractal approach to an eclectic mix of musical roots creating their very distinctive sound. Beyond rock and jazz, symphonic in quality and performance, SKB music is the cumulative expression and innovative vision of this richly talented quartet. Exploring the full gamut of emotions through heartfelt improvisation and intelligent compositions, SKB shows are magnificent sonic tapestries that embody the eternal creative spirit and unending search for the true nature of music and the soul-deep power that it holds for us all.
Adding his own visionary approach to music, Arne Livingston joins SKB on electric bass. As a member of the renowned Seattle-based trio Living Daylights, Arne has dazzled audiences throughout the world with his "anything and everything goes" approach to his instrument. Given their shared experimental temperaments, the addition of Arne’s imagination and talents to those of Steve Kimock, Rodney Holmes, and Mitch Stein seems an ideal fit with incredible potential for wildly exciting musical adventures. Indeed there is a very strong sense that 2003 will be a banner year for the Steve Kimock Band. The boys have been ensconced for several days of band camp at Kimock's new home studio dubbed "The Big Red Barn" and the excitement continues to mount as the band prepares to embark on their most ambitious tour to date.
The "Ride the K-Waves Tour" will bring SKB to many familiar places and a lot of new places too. Anchored with multiple night runs in New York City, Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, Denver, and Fayetteville, Arkansas along with stops in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, deep South, Mountain, and Northwest regions SKB will be riding the K-Waves from coast-to-coast as winter turns to spring. With deep forays into markets such as Florida and the Carolinas, SKB is boldly going where Kimock has only seldom gone before. Along the way, SKB has some unique gigs planned including two rare acoustic shows, one in Chicago at the Black Orchid Supper Club, and one at Chester's Place in Fayetteville. Expect the unexpected as Kimock and company set out to explore uncharted territories during these very special shows. In addition, the Steve Kimock Band is proud to be sharing co-headliner dates with the boogaloo power trio of Soulive. For these dates, one in Worcester and two in San Francisco, each band will play one long set for a wonderful evening of soul grooves anexpld psychedelic oration.
