The Motet is gearing up to blow you away throughout the entire month of February at Dulcinea's 100th Monkey in Denver! It’s a whole new stage for this Boulder-based band as they take time off the road and prepare to enter a new experimental zone.
These musicians have come into their own as experts of improvisational music, best known for a hard groove and celestial beats. The Motet delivers a unique experience with each show; fans might agree it’s a mystery where the band is going next, but it’s always groovin’. That’s the beauty of improv. There’s some super cool jazz, a mixture of funk and rhythm, and an unforgettable drum heavy beat. But somehow, it’s coherent and perfect, everything flows and the crowd becomes enthralled. An aura takes over the room, as people move closer and closer to the stage.
The Motet is bandleader Dave Watts on drums, keyboardist Greg Raymond, Garrett Sayers (formerly of the Miracle Orchestra) on bass, Scott Messersmith on percussion, and Jon Stewart on saxophone.
In addition to the funk and freestyle, the word is there will be some very special guests sharing the stage with the band this month. The Motet has played with well-known artists such as Garaj Mahal, Charlie Hunter, Living Daylights, The String Cheese Incident, The Slip, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Galactic and Ozomatli, as well as almost every jamming local Boulder band out there.
Who knows what will happen? Denver might never be the same again. Each evening at the loungy locale Dulcinea’s 100th Monkey is sure to be extraordinary and memorable, as The Motet takes to the playground. It’s all about new music, new direction and tons of talent. Come out and play!
