Tuesdays have never been better in San Francisco, where Michael Bizar has put together a weekly event that showcases some of the best musical talent the Bay Area has to offer. After a six-month run, Bizar Bazaar has turned the Boom Boom Room, into the place to be on Tuesday nights. Focusing on deep funk, improvisation and dance grooves, Bizar Bazaar mixes it up each week with new interpretations, an ever-growing repertoire, and a rotating weekly guest spot. In the month of December Bizar Bazaar will go even deeper into the funk. Check out these guest stars!
Mark Karan, making his Bizar Bazaar debut this month, will shred it up with Bizar on December 10th. Mark is the lead guitarist of Bob Weir’s Ratdog and was alongside Steve Kimock for the early incarnations of the Other Ones. Expect this to be a different kind of Bazaar because of Mark's great voice and the band's knack for showcasing its guests’ talent.
John Whooley, another virgin to the Bazaar, will make his debut on December 17th. John is breaking new ground with his scorching sax in two Bay Area bands: Estradasphere and Santa Cruz Hemp Allstars. We are holding out hope that some his band mates will sit in for this show!
And keep an eye out for special guests in January, including Adam Theis (Cannonball and Brass Monkey) on Jan. 7th, and a special Friday night show with Jason Concepcion (netwerk: electric) on Jan. 17th!
So far Bizar Bazaar has showcased local musicians from bands such as Santana, Brass Monkey, Motherbug, Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Aahkesstra, Freaktet and Vinyl. Recently some guests have returned for a second helping of the Bizar Bazaar, including Marty Whener of Mingus Amungus, Will Bernard and Paul Hanson. Says Bizar, “Each week has been so much fun and so different, as our guests have the power to guide the music in a different direction. It really keeps the music fresh for both the band and the audience.”
Bizar Bazaar is Michael Bizar on guitars, Simon Rochester on organ and electric piano, Dr. Murph M.D. on bass and Lucas Carlton on drums. What is most rare about the chemistry of Bizar Bazaar is that all players are technically proficient, yet still perform from the heart, which explains why the fans, as well as the musicians, come back time and time again.
Upcoming Bizar Bazaar special guests:
December 10 | Mark Karan (Ratdog) on guitar and vocals
December 17 | John Whooley (Santa Cruz Hemp Allstars and Estradasphere) on saxes
December 24th and 31st, Bizar Bazaar will be not be performing due to the holidays, but will come back in full force next month with:
January 7, 2003 | Adam Theis (Cannonball and Brass Monkey) on trombone, loops sampler and effects
