Come experience all the colors of The Rainbow
this Saturday, November 16th with Kooken & Hoomen and
discohesive. Covering the sonic spectrum
from all out rawk to heady ambiance, this pairing delivers something for everyone.
Hailing from the Bay Area, Kooken & Hoomen's self-described "live electronic alien rock" is a melding of rock, jazz, and electronica into one party package for the senses. Transitioning from ambient textures to progressive jazz, driving rock and the occasional Ween cover, Kooken & Hoomen has an uncanny ability to maintain their themes and melodies while exploring a variety of genres.
One of the catalysts of Kooken & Hoomen's heady explorations is bassist Rob Gwin. Floating effortlessly from bass to synthesizers and back to bass, he provides the framework necessary to allow the band to open their songs up into a wider realm of musical expression. The San Francisco Weekly said it best, "K&H’s members have an intrinsic understanding of how to piece together unrelated sounds..." Kooken & Hoomen are currently touring on the West Coast. Check ‘em out and don’t forget to get down to Portland for their New Year’s Eve show. For more information, check out KookenHoomen.com.
Seattle-based discohesive's unique sounds come from a synthesis of rock, reggae and live drum & bass. discohesive's fury is unleashed through its driving bass lines, subtle undertones, and surf rock textures. Holding all of this together are the ill beats delivered by drummer Jesse Bishop. Jesse’s unique style of drumming is the backbone of the multifaceted discohesive sound. Mixing electronic beats, hand percussion, samples, and traditional drumming on the fly, Jesse's ability to play is a sight to behold. His acute sense of rhythm coupled with his progressive style might make him the best drummer you’ve never heard of. This show will be discohesive's last for a few months, as they take a break to spend time recording new material and develop their live show’s highly anticipated visual element. Kooken & Hoomen and discohesive bring it strong, and no sonic stone will be left unturned at The Rainbow this Saturday. Both bands push the boundaries between the organic and the synthesized while constantly rewarding the audience with new sounds and textures. Joining forces with them on this special occasion will be visual artist Vito Juan Salazar, providing projections for your viewing pleasure.
