Colorado-based The McCloskey Brothers Band
is bringing its original Grassid Rock to audiences throughout the West beginning
this Friday in Flagstaff, Arizona. In recent months, The McCloskey Brothers Band
has exploded onto the national music scene. In less than one year, this band has
developed an unprecedented reputation as one of the nations top acoustic jambands.
Anyone who's had the opportunity to see The McCloskey Brothers Band perform knows
what the buzz is about! The band has been touring relentlessly in support of their
self-titled debut album, which has received rave reviews.
The McCloskey Brothers Band began touring in earnest in January 2002 and since that time, they have shared the stage with, opened for, and played festivals with a wide array of fine performers including the Derek Trucks Band, Leftover Salmon, Sam Bush, the David Grisman Quintet, Tim O'Brien, Mike Marshall and Darol Anger, Nickel Creek, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, Peter Rowan, Yonder Mountain String Band, John Cowan, Drew Emmitt, Ricky Skaggs, Tony Furtado, Railroad Earth and Strangefolk. The band's mixture of bluegrass, newgrass and rock, simply titled “Grassid Rock,” has invited comparisons to the Allman Brothers Band, Leftover Salmon and String Cheese Incident, and even Cat Stevens and Led Zeppelin! This past summer the McCloskey Brothers Band performed at The Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s Nightgrass Series and the High Sierra Music Festival.
One of the highlights of the tour is the 2002 Mountain Freaks Ball, November 23, 2002 at the Fox Theatre in the band’s hometown of Boulder, Colorado. C0-headlining with Sweet Mo Pea, the Mountain Freaks Ball is The McCloskey Brothers Band’s annual “kick off the winter party.” This year, it will include a pre-Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Community Food Share of Boulder County. For each canned good fans bring, they will receive a raffle ticket that can win them some awesome prizes donated by Freeskier Magazine.

“To understand the McCloskey Brothers' sound... you will have to use your imagination just a little. Let's pretend that years ago Cat Stevens... had hooked up with the Grateful Dead and had written most of their songs, still laden with the same folk spiritualism he became famous for... [Then] they had hired Bela Fleck as the musical front man, working in tandem with that easy, mellow vocal style of Jerry Garcia. Quite a stretch of the imagination, isn't it?! But, that is the McCloskey Brothers Band's sound.” ~ Rockzilla.net
