Down in Southern California, fans of the jam/electronic music scene can rejoice in the arrival of MFA (Motion For Alliance) this weekend. This sextet from Boulder, CO is very excited to perform three shows of their original live electronica this weekend. Formed in early 2001, MFA has wowed audiences throughout Colorado, the Midwest, and Las Vegas, where they performed a marathon three set show this past April at famed Legends Lounge. They impressed the locals so much that they were invited back for the Area 51 Soundtest later that month, joining bands like Dark Star Orchestra, Particle, Netwerk: Electric and Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.
MFA’s vibrant sound consists of Chris Anton and Ryan Goodman on guitars, Chris Newton on bass, Jon Modell on drums, drum machines and keyboards (often simultaneously), DJ Jayem Cain on synths and turntables, and Giselle Ruzany on vocals, improvised poetry and dance. Their dedication to high quality dance music has lead to songwriting that transcends the usual single-motif style of electronica, and their use of synchronized live samplers on stage brings musical improvisation to a new level.
Catch Motion for Alliance at Winston’s in Ocean Beach, CA on Thursday October 10 as they headline. MFA heads up the I-5 to West Los Angeles to play The Joint at midnight on Friday October 11, and then they head back to the San Diego area Saturday afternoon to play Ocean Beach Octoberfest at Dusty Roads Park in Ocean Beach- set time is 7:30 PM. Visit MFA Central for more information on this up-and-coming band, who promise to deliver “The Revolution in Dance Music.” See you out there!
