Music's power arrives in many forms, its strength nothing short of infinite. Perhaps one of music's most powerful attributes lies in its ability to bring people together, to unite unfamiliar, though like-minded, souls toward a celebratory gathering. This coming Wednesday outside of Atlanta, another such gathering will take place, where people and music converge to celebrate the young life of a friend, to raise money for his cause, and, most importantly, to dance, shine and have fun.
Anything's Possible Productions, a newly formed music event organizational and promotional entity from Asheville, North Carolina, has assembled a benefit concert showcasing some of the South's thickest jams for diving accident victim Adam Gee to be held Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Jake's Roadhouse in Decatur, GA.
Gee, 25, was paralyzed this past July in Columbia, SC. A week later, Gee was moved to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, a catastrophic spinal injury rehabilitation center. After a surgery which placed a metal plate between Adam's C6 and C7 vertebrae, doctors and family hoped for the best. However, the initial reports were far from optimistic. Doctors stated Adam would have a zero percent chance to regain use of his legs and a twenty percent chance of using his hands.
Undaunted, Gee continued to work through rehab despite the negative prognosis and has regained use of both arms and partial use of his left hand. He's got some feeling in his right hand, and both his legs. While these feats are no less than incredible, and there is no questioning the resolve and determination of Adam and his family, there is much to be done and, as you may imagine, it's not cheap.
This is the cool part. Here is where music comes in, and with the music, your chance to help Adam continue to work his way back to where he wants to be.
King Johnson, Skydog, Cadillac Jones, Southern Lights, Joe Burton, Rev. Jeff Mosier, and the Green Light Council will all be performing at the benefit. Also making a special appearance will be Atlanta hippie and radio celebs, Jeff and Maria Dunham from Z-93.
More information about the bands, directions to the venue, a list of sponsors and extra info can all be found at anythingspossibleproductions.com/adamgeebenefit.
This show represents everything that is, and can be, great about our scene, our music, our people, our family. Raising money through, simply, being ourselves and doing what we'd be doing anyway: listening to jam bands, meeting new friends, shakin' our butts. Kudos to the kind folks at Anything's Possible Productions and a huge shout-out to all the amazing bands and sponsors that have come on board to support this incredible project.
Make it out to the show, be safe, have a great time, and go home knowing it's all going to get a little bit better.
