Can you feel it? The air is a bit crisper, the leaves are all leaving and football season is underway. Autumn is here!
This time of year always gives birth to some incredible musical performances. Maybe it's the release of energy that was built up during the hot summer? Maybe it's the upcoming festivities of Harvest Time, Halloween and Thanksgiving? Or maybe, the planets and stars are aligned just right and it's a little bit easier for the music to play the band. Whatever the reason is, it's a known fact that fall tour sizzles and Strangefolk has been heating up their Groove Grass Stew with the best of them.
Starting a week after Eden, the band kicked off their 2002 Fall Tour in Towson, MD with a high-energy throw down at the Recher Theater. This was followed by a string of barnburners in Philadelphia, New York City, Wilkes-Barre, Poughkeepsie and Amherst. The shows I attended only furthered my appetite for their unique sound and had me searching the net for the next celebration. Strangefolk served up a wonderful selection of covers that hit you in the right spot and blends them perfectly with a bunch of new material that instantly feel like concert staples. All of this is packed into a candy-coated shell of danceability and generously served up with a side of Funk.
This is NOT your mama's Strangefolk. This harmonious blend of chaotic symmetry will astound your mind and body. The band is playing their hearts out right now, and they are consistently searching for new tricks to play on the fans. Each show is fresh and the set list choices grow by the day. It good when your favorite song is the next one played!!!
And YOU still have time to bear witness to their vibrations. Now is the time for the second half of the Fall Tour. Their first show will take place on October 5th at The Blue Note in Columbia, MO. From there, they begin their attack on the Midwest bringing the love and music to the masses. If the first half of this Fall Tour was any indication of what's to come, we just might find that the east bank of the Mississippi is now beachfront property. The Midwest is in for some serious trouble.
Now don't just take my word for it. Go and see for yourself what has been the sleeper band of the year. Try not to kick yourself in the ass too hard when you find out what you have been missing.
