Generations of jazz funk artists come together for a premiere tour!

Inspired by the soul/jazz/funk of the 60s and 70s, keyboardist Robert Walter assembled a veritable "who's who" of the genre for his 2001 solo release on Premonition Records, There Goes The Neighborhood. Joined by soul/jazz/funk veterans who have performed with Jack McDuff, Herbie Hancock, Cannonball Adderly, and The Crusaders as well as blues and R&B legends B.B. King, Willie Dixon, Aretha Franklin and Earth Wind & Fire (to name but a few), Robert created an album that echoed with a classic vibe but resonated with a modern groove.

Now, Robert is ready to hit the road with a number of the stellar musicians that contributed their talents to There Goes The Neighborhood. The ensemble, appropriately referred to as the There Goes The Neighborhood band, features jazz-funk innovators Phil Upchurch on guitar, bassist Chuck Rainey and tenor saxophonist Red Halloway. Also on stage will be drummer Stanton Moore who, like Robert Walter, has made a name for himself among the new breed of jazz-funk royalty as a member of Galactic and, more recently, with his own group. Chuck Prada, who plays percussion with Walter's band 20th Congress, rounds out the group. Guitar great Melvin Sparks will replace Phil Upchurch in Denver, Seattle and Portland.

The There Goes The Neighborhood tour and the album of the same name are, according to Walter. "a kind of a joke on the idea that I am a younger player moving into recording and playing with all these established artists." But Walter does not take lightly the opportunity to perform with artists of this caliber. "Playing with these guys will be a real challenge and an amazing experience. Each in his own way has influenced an inspired me and countless others to live up to their high standards. I'm sure it will be funky, challenging and funky."

Fans of jazz-funk will also recognize the There Goes The Neighborhood tour is special. This might be one of the few times - and possibly the only time - that such a astonishing collection of musicians from different generations gather together to present an evening of unparalleled groove and unforgettable jazz-funk.

Recently, Robert and his band 20th Congress, with special guest trombone legend Fred Wesley, have been packing houses in several cities across the nation. Robert and Fred had audiences shaking and shuffling until the wee hours of the morning! One can only imagine the reaction when Robert hooks up with some of jazz-funk's most talented musicians for these handful of dates in May. Think Jack McDuff, Booker T. & the MGs, Parliament-Funkadelic and Galactic all rolled into one.
