No, they're not a bus, or a slave-like dog: these Greyhounds are the funkiest band to hit upstate since the Congress run by Mr. Walter. And hit it hard they did! These guys have got some seriously funky chops. During their hour-long opening set, these boys delivered grade-A getdown from all around the way. Fast movin' Boogaloo, a-la Joe Jones, new hard hittin' stuff, that I can only describe as 'get your ass to the next show' groove, and a heavy helping of loving soul. Throughout the show, pianist Anthony Farrell turned many a head, by rockin' out the low end bass grooves (these guys recently lost their bass player) as well as the funky high end stuff, all at the same time! Quite a site indeed. Speaking of sites to see, drummer Nick Pencis will blow your mind with a trick that is so unique, it is currently being studied in such far off lands as Turkey (truly a must see!). Last but not least, guitar player Andrew Tube kept us all on our toes (or movin' our toes) with his Texas-funk-bucket-kickin-git-box-work. The guy truly has his own thing goin', but if I had to compare him to another (you know... the whole death or decision far fetched thing), I would say he sounds like Boogaloo Joe Jones at times. To top it off, the guy keeps you smiling with his very own brand of MC'n between songs. I can only hope that these guys come back to Syracuse sometime soon, but until then check them out whenever they find your city.

Keep Smiling,

Jeff Kraus
