The Proof Through the Night concert series was begun as a way to benefit the families and victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. While the money raised at these benefit concerts now goes to local charities in the Washington, DC area, Proof Through the Night continues to honor the victims and their families by donating the money raised by these concerts in their names.

This Saturday’s concert, the sixth in the series, will be for the benefit of the House of Ruth and promises to be the biggest and most successful show in the series. The show will feature a total of 12 acts split between two stages. The upstairs stage will feature acoustic entertainment while the main stage will feature full electric stage performances from numerous bands capped by performances by Ubiquitone and The Shantee.

This will mark Ubiquitone’s second appearance on a Proof Through the Night bill. They headlined Proof Through the Night V. This seven piece group from Washington, DC formed in the fall of 2000 and has been slowly building a solid reputation and following ever since. Ubiquitone’s sound, self-described as “roots groove”, has been heard throughout the mid-Atlantic region in 2001, highlighted by performances at Hilltop Family Productions Spring Fling in Victor, WV and the Woodward Music Festival. Ubiquitone also makes regular appearances at Sunshine Daydreams music festivals. The band has just completed production on their debut CD entitled The Essex Shuck and are planning an April 2002 release.

Headlining the show will be The Shantee out of Columbus, OH. Formed at Denison University in 1995, this five-piece band lays down a serious groove with songs that have a real pop sensibility. Bill Wright, host of Road Trippin on WRNR, 103.1 in Annapolis says; “the Shantee are without a doubt the most promising band that I’ve seen emerge in quite some time”. The band’s second release, Hydration, was also named #1 album in Bill’s Road Trippin Top 30 Albums of 2001. Press like this coupled with the Shantee’s monster stage presence has made them one of the Midwest’s fastest growing band. This will be the Shantee’s 1st show in the national capital area and is sure to be a memorable one. Don’t miss it!
