Colorado's fast pickin' and energetic acoustic jamgrass band phenom, Yonder Mountain String Band has begun their New Horizons Tour 2002! Expanding upon traditional bluegrass arrangements and ballad-oriented songs, the band, Adam Aijala (guitar), Jeff Austin (mandolin), Dave Johnston (banjo), and Ben Kaufmann (stand-up bass), has been known to jam on one song for sixty minutes. The band calls this fast picking and high-energy brand of bluegrass "drive without drums." The sound appeals not only to traditional bluegrass aficionados, but to acoustic music, jam band, and rock n' roll lovers as well. Whether plugged in, or gathered around a single microphone, these four let it rip, creating dance friendly stunning performances.
The band just completed a sold-out three-night run in Arizona to kick off the tour and is now headed to California, Oregon and Seattle for a short Northwest run. Many exciting and fun-filled shows await the band as they step up into new and bigger venues throughout the tour. They open for Sam Bush on February 15th in San Louis Obisbo. Darol Anger joins from March 14-16th and again on the 21st and 23rd. Friend and bluegrass legend, Tim O'Brien who produced the second studio album, Town By Town (2001 Frog Pad Records) joins as a very special guest March 27-30th. Live audio-cast February 23-24 from The Wild Duck in Eugene, check out www.gravitylab.net/yonder.htm for details!!! A full webcast is currently in the works for a show on the east coast in April, stay tuned for details to come.
