Welcome to the second installment of JamBase’s new Monday tradition, where we offer you a fab tune to help you settle into what we hope will be a short work week for most of you as the country prepares to let freedom ring around festival stages and barbecues. Our pick for today is a deep album cut from World Party taken from 1990’s Goodbye Jumbo. Ex-Waterboy Karl Wallinger came into his own with this release, which modernizes and salutes the blueprint laid out by The Beatles. This track finds him cataloging all the things he’d give up – a strange, beautiful laundry list including rare ’61 Beatles, his choicest looks and a film of his dreams – to see just one “Sweet Soul Dream” come to fruition. Delivered with country, Celtic and gospel accents, this lovely tune never defines the specifics, which in turn makes room for our own wakeful wishing.
