What a heady show...

Great opener in Cassidy...Loved the Lazy River Road and Bama Getaway.

After that short acoustic set there was a breather, then they broke out the psychadelics. Craziness. Great encore, head still spinning from last night. Get ur ass out and see the boys, They're back in full force.

Actually the poor economy is leading to talk here in california about legalizing weed and taxing it. With the economy so bad they can longer afford to waste nearly a billion a year on the drug war. Save millions on the war on drugs plus california taxing of weed would raise 1 or 2 billion a year for the state. California number one cash crop is weed NOT wine or fruits grown in the central valley. In 2006 california collected 11 million dollars in business taxes on marijuana related business. Alcohol prohibition died during the last depression now it pot turn! The tax was $50 per ounce.

Can't wait to see the dead this weekend in worcester while on vacation.

so pumped. Cant wait to see them in albany on friday, and a few more ny stops.

worthlesswampyfool, sorry but thats not gonna happen. If you looked at obamas policies you could see that green wasnt gonna be legalized or even really decrim. To much control, they arent going to give that up even if 90 percent of the people are for it. Presidents change, but for the most part the same policies are upheld. Fighting the war on drugs, printing/wasting loads of money, and passing unconstitutional legislation... sidetrackkkkk

but damn, greats setlists/pics from both shows. Thank you jambase, hope it continues all tour.

^ Not to stick up for him but as a concert photographer, I can tell you pimpmcgeorge that in large venues and following the bands restrictions that it is sometimes nearly impossible to get photos of the drummers.

Last year when i shot ABB, the stage was 7 feet tall (keep in mind we are restricted to a pit that is only about 5' wide so you can not go back very far.) and the guitarists were easily 15' from the front of the stage so the drummers were easily 20~25' back..... I could not even see the drummers and could only see the guitarists from the knees up.

I was there, had a blast! Loved the drums, and really dug the ride from come together back into dk str. I was in section 220, and had a view of the back of Warren's amps, and got to see Tipper bouncin' around w/ Mickey during those select tunes. (I'm still ticked @ her for the music rating thing.) I got splashed on by someone in the section above me. My first thought was that the Jersey govt guy was pee'ing on everyone again, but I'm pretty sure it was just beer that hadn't been through anyone's body. Warren is one hell of a guitarist!

fun show to be at, cassidy and passenger were nice at the beginning. Easy Wind had warren sounding really good- dylan cover was awesome, really like the dark star... heard some grief from fans during glory road (would have rather heard a bobby acoustic song there like el paso or me and my uncle) only beef is the last 3 songs, it couldn't get much "pop"ier than those, they jammed out a little on them but i was dissapointed in the song selection at the end, but seeing them play together was a real treat!

The bus came by and I got on, that's where it all began....

Does this make anyone else feel disgusted, sick, and sad inside? My favorite band in history, the one that tops them all, The Grateful Dead are arguably the most powerful counter-cultural force this country has ever experienced; they spawned an entire generation of people who realized there is a better way to live than how our lawmakers and government want us to. At Dead shows, people would (drugs or not) experience and learn things that would change their lives, make lifelong friends, heck, even more than a few children were born on tour and even at shows! All of this craziness, experimentation, desire for something new and different, something BETTER..... it all comes down to this, to Tipper Gore guesting on drums. If someone had told me the Dead would be the White House's house band in 2009..... I would have laughed, and probably said "only if Garcia was president!" But he isn't. He's dead. And so is the dream he had. "The Dead featuring Tipper Gore, in support of Barack Obama." Way to stick it to the man and fight for what's right boys. This flies right in the face of what music is all about, bringing people together regardless of race, creed, politics, religion...... My name is Aaron. I may be Dead, but I am no longer Grateful.

The bus came by and I got off, this is where it all ended....

alfinestone - I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!! Look, is the Tipper thing a little odd? Yes. But everyone knows they're big deadheads! And yes, some deadheads wear suits and work in DC!

Can you imagine how this world COULD be if people like us had a little more influence on people like them? The Dead have ALWAYS been involved in politics, directly or indirectly. From participating in demonstrations to subtly using their lyrics to make people rethink how they looked at the world - a world based on and fueled by politics, like it or not.

I say, if Bobby can get a seat in the Oval Office, more power to him! I sure as hell wish I could! This is a high-stakes world. You can either pony up and play or sit down and shut the fuck up!

Sure, you can create your own perfect bubble and ignore the cruel realities of the world, but that won't help or change anything.

They actually have a political audience in DC! Do you realize how powerful that is? Do you realize how much influence that can have? Do you realize how positively that can affect all of us??

I think it's awesome, should be applauded and will hopefully encourage more progressive thinkers to get involved!!

these guys have no balls at all... No Scarlet Begonias.... No talks to Obama about Legalization? Tipper Gore? wtf is this bullshit from the band who once was going to release an album titled "SKULL FUCK?!" YOU ALL KNOW THAT OBAMA LAUGHED AT THE LEGALIZATION QUESTION AND SAID "I GUESS THAT TELLS YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE INTERNET AUDIENCE..." i may be wrong about the quote by a few small words but to me it's like Obama CALLED EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET STONERS and brushed it off... Does he not know that damn near every Grateful Dead fan smokes weed? He't not stupid, He campaigned with the boys last year. And sure as shit I know headcount registered a fuckload of us and most of us who signed up probably voted for his ass... So I'm saying that Obama is not retarded and he knows that every fan of The Band he USED for his campaign is a stoner, but the fact that we all (mostly) voted for his ass doesn't change the fact that he could give a shit about our freedoms, rights and opinions. I hope the boys make some noise for legaliztion because Obama sure as shit won't. I fell for the bullshit last November, but when the country collapses before the next election, I won't be surpirsed... but I hope I'm wrong. RIP Jerry, Pigpen, Keith, Brent, Vince. i'm sorry, but this is crap. I mean this shit SUCKS big time. I went to DC last night and it was horrid. I nearly fell asleep. I used to love seeing the grateful dead, but this shit is wayyyy overrated fluff. I'm glad all the older folks out there are getting their panties all wet over this, but seriously the music was TERRIBLE. I don't go to shows for the drugs, so maybe if you ate a ten strip of acid it might sound decent, but i was sober and it was absolutely piss poor. Go ahead and flame me, but this is how i feel about this. Tipper gore? i almost puked in my mouth. What about a real drummer for a guest spot? I didn't want to believe that these guys sold out, but they have sold out BIG TIME. They got obama elected, which is something the GD would have never done...politics. Not to mention that obama lied to everyone that voted for him hoping that he'd legalize herb. I'm sorry folks, but this is garbage. I know it must be fun to be in the band, but pleas emake this your last tour. ikt is shameful and a disfrace to jerry's memory to treat the legacy of the GD like this. Maybe they can be the house band on the view after this tour. Wayyyyy over hyped.

brahnie lott and alfinestone r both right on... would i get beat up if i wear a ron paul or nader t shirt to one of their shows? the music sounds pretty bad, everyone knows its a nostalgia trip but so what the music is timeless and i'll enjoy myself and the people at a couple of shows. I'll be chilling with the hardworking deadheads that work and support the workingmans dead, not the other liberal yuppies that drive a prius with an obama/biden bumper sticker. We all must realize that there are class differences in this country and we all like the dead if not each other, but we can all get along at a dead show. Unfortunatey, thanks to bob and phil bringing politics into it those divisions are now apparent. The minute Tipper Gore showed her face i would have walked out and asked for my money back, thats a fact. WHERE HAS JERRY GARCIA GONE? oooo, and steve kimock should be playing lead and also should come by the boston area soon

Looks like a great show. Some rough spots for sure, but Warren seems to be finding a stronger voice in this band than either he or Jimmy (even combined) found last time. I can't wait for the show at the Gorge with the Allmans (for which tickets were only $50 for both bands, so I don't share the problem with outrageous ticket prices).

As for the political stuff, I can understand if you hate "politics" in that you hate partisan bickering. But to say that you hate "politics" meaning that you don't want anything to do with the political process and don't want your favorite bands to use their visibility to advocate for causes and leaders they believe in (which is what I'm hearing), is just fucking ridiculous. Like linsbee said, they are trying to use the influence they have for good, like I hope anyone would do. We can't just pretend this shit doesn't exist. To quote a bumper sticker, "The world is run by those who show up."

And as for everyone bitching about the legalization issue, I agree in part, but I really think there are more important issues we could be talking about. No doubt the government wastes a shitload of money and there are far too many harmless folks locked up, but this is really your #1 beef with the gov't? This is why this community continually gets marginalized and relegated to a joke when it comes to actual political change.

Whatever. Bring on the Dead!

Indeed keep politics out of our fun. people who want to get involved should and do get their facts from more reliable sources than a rock band. Having someone with fame and reach forcing their opinions on us belittles the people who have differing opinions. And as for the weed issue, that should be a state's decision, not the fed's, its in the constitution people

Where exactly does our constitution talk about weed? The feds' power to regulate drugs comes from their ability to regulate interstate commerce. It sucks ass, but it's true. There are solid arguments that growing your own for personal uses should not be subject to fed regulation, but the theory is that with the power to regulate a market comes the power to completely eradicate a market and anything that could possibly enter that market. That's how the law stands these days. None of this is to say that I don't agree with you that it should be a state's choice, but that's not how the constitution has been interpreted by our Supreme Court. Hopefully it will change. It will take either a different Supreme Court or a Constitutional Amendment. Shitty but true.

He's clearly happy using the good ol grateful dead as a cash cow, assuming most fans will be happy to hear him speak the lyrics and occassionally fall into the drum kit (seriously have seen him do this twice in the last 2 years).

Be catching DSO instead thanks, where the music sounds WAY more like my favorite band at their best

How about The Ungrateful Dead. That sums these guys up the best I think. And they should keep the god damn politics far away from the stage. Oh I forgot, Bobby is a member of the Bohemian Grove. SELL OUTS.

I have a feeling many of the posotive comments come from those who never got to see The Gratetful Dead. This band clearly lacks energy in most of the tunes I've heard so far, Bobs singing is totally lack luster compared to the way he used to belt it out. The shakedown I heard was horrible compared to the funk filled jams Jerry used to belt out. They should change thier name from The Dead to Half Dead.

You guys above couldnt say it better, all they want is money now, listen to there early tours after jerry died: as the OTHER ONES, bring that back and bring back the affordable shows, not politics every time i go, i want to see the Dead play there music, notice i said teh dead, every since Jerry died the sound is different that is ok, i will alwasy love to hear my favorite dead songs but they need to be played full force and with energy for the crowd. it seems they are inconsistant with there energy, some shows good, some bad thats why i USE to go to every show, now finiancially i cannot do that nor the music is as good. I remember summer tour 04 teh last 4 dates, DC, Raliegh, Charlotte then Hotlanta. those last four dates made me continue to go to each one, now i dont get that energy or vibe. Raliegh, Charlotte and Atlanta were sick as shit. Actually so sick i drove to Cali that year to see them for new years in Oakland, do i see myself doing that again, fuck no, aint worth it. give it up guys or get real like you use to. We are teh same you are changing.

@linnbee314....INFLUENCE POLICY MY ASS! they are using their fame to hobknob with the snobs in washington. Where were you when the messiah Obama laughed at all us "internet" people who wanted cannabis reform. They used us to get their boy elected and now thei rboy has turned his back on us. It's pathetic. I'm glad your not my mama because you are fucking clueless. TIPPER GORE ON DRUMS? how fucking lame is that? At least get someone who actually plays drums on a guest spot. It's pathetic and the joke is on them because i'm done spending money on their tired bullshit and political moves. Watch for barney frank to play tuba in worchester. HOPE AND CHANGE MY ASS! Obama is looking to INCREASE penalties against pot..look into it instead of being such a blind lemming.

Rizzle - clueless? I wish you had more brains than 3rd grade name calling.

McCain would be better right? Is pot all you care about? What would you like him to do...come into office and sign an executive order the first day legalizing it? Wow! I bet that would work well for future bipartisan agreements.

Obama is the reason medicinal use is up 300% in the two months since he took office. You might want to check your facts! And my calling him "messiah" you really show how intelligent you are.

Sorry, can't discuss real issues w/ someone who only knows how to quote CNN soundbites. Thanks for trying!

Damon - Did he not call off the feds from busting dispensary owners? You think McCain would've done that? It's just the first step, but it's way better than anyone else has ever done.

So, usually everyone bashes DSO saying they are 'just a cover band' and now people are hating on The Dead?

Seriously, you guys complain way too much. How old is Bobby now? I mean, these guys are old, and still rocking out. If you think that show sucked then I feel sorry for you. Oh his vocals arent as good? No shit his vocals arent as good - its not 1973. People just cant be satisfied these days. I paid 120 bucks to go and it was worth every penny.

It's also funny how people are saying they are sell outs and are just doing this for money. Dont go to their damn shows then. They are carrying on the tradition - the music never stops. But yet, you poeple all want them to stop....seems like it goes against the whole manta behind the dead.

i love the dead & am very excited to see them at msg next week -- but for a $100 a ticket - tipper gore should have been set up on the side of the stage in a dunk tank - not on a drum kit -- btw, i'm nowhere near a conservative when it comes to politics either.

I didn't vote for McCain either. I wrote in Ron Paul. And no he did not call off raids on dispensary owners. Just because they, the federal government say they will do something does not mean they will do what they say. In fact it is ususally quite the opposite.

I don't care how much the ticket is or who steps in on drums w/ them. I don't care if Bobby takes a seat on Obama's cabinet. I'm a deadhead and always will be. They've never sold out in my eyes and never will. It's a shame some of you guys have lost your heart!

Man the shows sound crystal clear and actually sounds like the dead have evolved. Bobbies guitar sounds greater than ever, maybe not his vocals, but his playing is very clean. And Phil still one of a kind, he adds so much of the sound and vibe. They still have the magic, and will have many more beautiful moments on the tour...which is what keeps them doing this. So many harsh critics here...Its not 1977, 1989 anymore. And who cares if Tipper came out to play drums. Shes a drummer and a deadhead. I thought it was rather cool to invovle a politician while in DC. Maybee it will add some spirit in the capital. Basically, its just getting warmed up i think. Hopefully ticket prices come down...there some politics right there...

I cannot believe you paid 120 bucks for a show, what a phuckin rip off, looking at my dad's ticket stubs from woodstock 69, each day was 6 bucks the three day pass was 18 dollars, at teh show, they made it a free concert and had over a half a million people there. you paid 120 bucks for a show, = lame. my dead ticket stubs from 04 tour were about 42 bucks a night, you pay 120. wow, the economy is going under and they just keep jacking prices, wow. we all love the dead, otherwise you wouldnt be commenting on this issues but hey wake up and smell the roses, 120 bucks a night, i can say this is the end.

hey Widespread Phanic... ever heard of a Jazz Guitarist named Pat Martino? he had a fucking stroke... and relearned how to play guitar... the dude is like 60 and post-stroke he can still rip warrens fat ass a new one. just because you age doesn't mean you HAVE TO LOSE MUSICAL ABILITY. it depends on how much you practice and if you have arthritus in your fingers. some age gracefully and others just faze out.

Hey Trey Phan...Jerry was fat too. So what. Neither of them are pole vaulters, they are/were soulful guitarists (by the way, I love Trey, but he sure aint got no soul).

Now speaking of fat people, Tipper Gore also headed the PMRC - which invented labeling for records stank of censorship....go learn some history kids...

Hope the boys got a plug in for all the causes with O and Co, but I'm guessing it was just for civil meet and greet with no substantive discussion of all the issues that everyone here get so excited about (C'mon, legalization right now? We have some seriously bad shit going on all around us which doesn't allow for folks to take their eyes of the ball right now)

Oh yeah...Bobby, a) are you sponsored by Birkenstock? and b) are you a poster child for water conservation? Change your clothes you dirt worshipper! Bring back the 80s short shorts!

Does anybody know if Tipper has grown up and rethought her 80's activity? She was a parent of a new teenager at that time, a frightening experience for all of us. Just a thought.

As for the show...I loved it. Wasn't happy about the ticket prices but when the guy behind me met my 15 yr. old son and said "damn you're lucky. I wish I had kids old enough to bring to see the Dead" I realized that I NEVER thought I'd see this day. As for the music...superb. And, in may ways 65 year-old Phil is playing better than 35 year-old Phil.

Tipper gore is an adversary of free speach. She fought hard to make sure we never hear another swear word on a record again. Those stupid warning lables we see on Cd's still today are because of her actions. A woman that is willing to take away my freedom to hear music the way the artist meant it to be heard should not be allowed on a stage, nevermind mith my favorite band. look, the music that they are creating right now is inspiring. Phil has found new life and this new music is exciting. Phil's new Bass is SICK. But this Tipper Gore-butt kissing fest makes me ill. I'm just glad I wasn't a part of it.

wow, so many of you...what a bunch of fucking crybabies! enjoy the live music while it lasts, for what it is. for those of us who never got to see the Dead with Jerry, we are fucking ecstatic to see these guys on stage together!! on this tour! to whoever was bitching: DSO is great, sure, but you really stick a fork in all our asses when you say the Dead should just "stop touring" together and whatever, you know, FUCK YOU. and the whole politics thing, who gives a shit? shut the fuck up, seriously. i dont give a shit about legalizing weed right now (it's not a priority) even though i smoke and i hate politics too but why dont you just ignore it? don't be so sour. you're exactly the burnt out fucking pieces of shit that bum everyone else out, especially in such times where we should be looking out for each other and remaining "grateful"
