TO TAKE PLACE AUGUST 28 - 30, 2009

Outside Lands 2008 by Michael Weintrob
Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly Productions and Starr Hill Presents, in a partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, are proud to announce the lineup for the second annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. The multi-faceted, three-day festival will once again take place in San Francisco's historic Golden Gate Park August 28-30, 2009. Tickets will go on sale Sunday April 19 at 10 a.m. PST via www.SFOutsidelands.com, and the festival's presale for Visa and Visa Signature cardholders will take place April 15-18.

In one year, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival singlehandedly raised the bar for live music in Northern California. Now an annual gathering, this year's lineup will solidify Outside Lands as the premier festival in the region, with unmatched creative programming that showcases leading artists in many musical scenes, including rock, pop, world music, soul, hip-hop and electronic. Like the inaugural event, major national headliners such as Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, Incubus, Black Eyed Peas, Jason Mraz, Thievery Corporation, Ween, The Mars Volta, TV on the Radio, Tom Jones, Built To Spill, Calexico, The National and Q-Tip, will perform alongside exceptional emerging artists such as Deerhunter, Heartless Bastards, Blind Pilot, Mastodon, Trombone Shorty and Dengue Fever. Local acts such as The Dodos, The Morning Benders, Brett Dennen, John Vanderslice, Raphael Saadiq and SambaDa will be featured prominently as the festival strives to highlight the great artists of the region. The complete announced lineup is listed below. More acts will be announced soon. The 2009 Lineup Video, produced by Ghost Robot, features the song "OUTSIDE LANDS (GO ON & FIX YOUR HAIR)" by RANGER DAVE & THE BISON and can be viewed here:

Very good headliners. I would go if I was in the Bay area. PJ, DMB, Beasties, Ween and Volta are all top quality live performers. I wish Ween was hittin' up more fests. I think they're gonna be touring on a new album soon though, so I guess I'll catch 'em then.

They need tighter security. Judging by the photo I'd say there way way too much crack at last year's fest. That must be one strong tree limb...

What is going on with the lineups for Northern California festivals this year? How do you go from last year's lineup to this? Now, maybe Treasure Island will have Green Day and Blink 182 and we can officially call it the worst year of festivals ever out here.

Makes me want to take a West Coast trip, mainly to see WEEN!!!!!!!! but others deerhunter, duke spirit, M.I.A., Volta, Thievery Corporation, T.v. on the Radio come on this shit is going to be sick! I like the collection of some old greats and the new up and coming creepy shit, it makes me smile :)

-- I know this will be flagged... but when was the last time either headliner was relevant in music? 10-15 years ago? Honestly...

Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band.... its like many other festivals that sell people when they start as jam friendly only go turn it into a huge mixed crowd of different personalities when you add someone like Incubus and Tom Jones to the mix.

$200-$300 for a bunch of pop radio acts, no camping, shitty sound, yeah right. Sure there's a couple good bands on the lineup, but for that kinda $$$ you could see Pearl Jam, the Beasties, Ween and Volta in venues and get 2+ sets of each. And if you want to visit SF, the best time is definitely the first weekend of Oct.-- it's actually sunny and warm, it's "Fleet Week", which means the whole city is going crazy -- parades, concerts, art shows, 80 year old grandmas on their first visit from Japan stumbling around hammered-ass drunk at 10 o'clock in the morning, and oh yeah, that little thing called Hardly Strictly-- 50-60,000 people, 5 stages, and yes it's FREE.

Just to clear things up, TOM JONES is not the old singer that Carleton loves on Fresh Prince. This TOM JONES is a young indie guy. I haven't listened to him yet, but they are NOT the same person!

now that I've had all day to think about it... I got two things to say about this festie... 1. why the fuck aren't the Dead playing 2 nights at this bitch.... and 2..... I will probably not make it to this unless they add Primus/The Dead.. but I'll still be disapointed if Tom Jones turns out to be some indie dude. Thats false advertising as fuck.

Still this is a pretty solid lineup. Seriously, last year you got Radiohead and Primus... this year Ween, TMV, Mastodon, Beasties... and if my friends are right, these Thievery Coporation dudes must be pretty tight.

r2droo2, High Sierra is the best California festival. It has the best vibe of a festival that I have ever been to, its a lot of fun. I've been to earthdance, fun, but no where near the magic that goes down at High Sierra.

lol, this line-up is so-so, i prettty sure primus wont be there, they would need to record new material so it wouldnt be the same "best-of" tour. If anything claypool might get added with his current project since hes at almost every other festival this year. however les did supposdly say that we can expect great things from primus in 2010 !!!

Went to this festival last year, rated it a C minus. If you like congested areas while watching bands play 30 minutes sets, then you'll love this festival.

Not worth it. Plenty of better festivals going on out there than this one.

Not as good as last year...

I trolled outside two of the three nights last year, could hear everything loud and clear... and could see a few stages pretty well. I actually enjoyed hanging out outside of it more than being in it. Couldn't see the main stage, but still enjoyed the light show that was changing the whole sky and looked awesome in the trees. Oh also, if the fences/security have not gotten better than last year... it is a piece of cake jumping over.
