Jimmy Herring Band: 1st Tour

Jimmy Herring
For the first time ever, guitarist Jimmy Herring will tour with his own band - a hand-picked ensemble of all-star musicians. The Jimmy Herring Band features Herring on guitar, drummer extraordinaire Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz is Dead, Shawn Lane), prolific jazz maverick Greg Osby on saxophone, multifaceted keyboardist Scott Kinsey (Tribal Tech), and musical chameleon Oteil Burbridge (spring tour only) on bass (Allman Brothers, Aquarium Rescue Unit).

Herring's dynamic, exploratory guitar work has been a key component of such renowned groups as the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz is Dead, Project Z, and, most recently, Widespread Panic – with whom Herring plays lead guitar to this day. Much esteemed by his fellow musicians, Herring has also performed with Phil Lesh & Friends, Allman Brothers Band and The Dead.

The Jimmy Herring Band will perform a wide range of material, including compositions from Herring's long-awaited and much-acclaimed 2008 solo debut Lifeboat (Abstract Logix Music). The band will also cover influential tracks from the 60's and 70's and select favorites from the catalogues of the individual band members.

Herring is understandably excited about the prospect of performing this music with this lineup over an extended period of time. "It's a shot of adrenaline to get to play with musicians who are pushing the envelope and breaking down the walls that exist between genres of music. Each of these musicians inspires with every note they play."

Wasn't this announced weeks ago? Or, is this a different tour?

Late news = Confusion.

Don't forget to check out the Macon show's after party with the South Memphis String Band. Two great bands that night.

Gonna be da shit!! Lots of love down south! I've already requested days off for Charleston.

And yes, old news. Apparently ticket sales must be slow.

I will be missing the Raleigh show due to being in NoLa for Jazz Fest. Hopefully there will be more dates added later on, I would really like to check this band out!

I am so excited that i am freaking out. This tour is the real deal. Freaking phenomenal musicians. Herring the ARU started something phenomenal back in the early nineties and this band is going to take it to a whole different level. Whether you love jambands, jazz, fusion, rock... this is the party to be in

this will be sick, just make a stop in VA and that would seal the deal. Herring is a nasty guitar player and brings it with many different styles, jazz, funk, jam to name a few. check this out if you have never seen him or ARU

C'mon folks, Jimmy's first gig (which was his confirmed status as a fulltime member) with Panic was a nasty three night run at Radio City Music Hall to open up the 2006 Fall Tour. 9/14/2006

And hell yeah about his solo band! See you in Charlotte and hopefully Nashville!

Moephish and Pimpmcgorge...I had the pleasure of seeing stockholm syndrome at Allgood in like 03 or 04 I can't remember which year, but it was their first tour ::I think:: and they were a good time, they didn't have the best time slot, and the crowd was small since they were fairly unknown about, but anything with Schools is worth seeing in my opinion. Their set was solid but it was lacking the energy of a top notch show, just kind of slow and the jams ::well some of them:: didn't go above and beyond like I was expecting. Anyway, this JH tour looks amazing, alas there is no NE love so I will just have to pray for a good torrent ;[ Have fun everyone

It should be noted that starting 6/4 Oteil is *not* on the tour. Matthew Garrison will be on the tour on bass guitar from then on.

COME TO THE NORTHEAST!!! Herring is such a great musician and also a great guy. Too bad he's not playing with The Dead instead of Warren...

Lots of Jazz influence...sounds good. He likes the south because that's where he is from. He's not playing with the Dead because 1) Who knows if he was even asked, and 2) He has a little band called Widespread Panic that may require his presence...Now I'm just guessing here, but I bet it's a lot more fun playing with Panic than the Dead these days.

he might not be playin with the Dead because they honestly don't deserve him.
