I believe 2001 will always be regarded a seminal year in the life of RANA. Not for the obvious reasons like their first full tour this summer or the epic final performances in the house that helped bring them along (Wetlands Preserve). Not because they grow closer to college graduation or the fact that their "road journal" (scribed by tour manager Jimmy Chernin) is soon to be the basis for J.K. Rowling's newest series of novels. I see it this way based on the increasing sizes of their bite into a musical style that's both melodically wrought and a growling beauty. To help it all rush beyond the limits of the year's glass, RANA begins their first New Year's run on December 27th at John and Peter's Place in New Hope, PA with special guest Chris Harford.

The band then plays CBGB's in New York on Friday December 28th with support from These Bones, Mary Prankster and the Cancer Conspiracy. RANA feeds well on the vibes of the rooms they play so only to imagine the sounds they'll produce where the Ramones and Blondie came to life is thrilling. On the 29th, you can find them at the Princeton Arts Council and then at Asbury Park's The Saint on the 30th. RANA finishes off the run on NYE in The Old Office (Knitting Factory NYC) where they also lit it up on Halloween.

After some time to gather hindsight, maybe this year won't be that seminal compared to all those to come. They'll all be as momentous because RANA leaves it all on the stage during their shows and the exhausted but cleared canvas of their energy is constantly being refreshed with new hues and shapes to bring from inside the RAWK. Each show is not only a celebration of the moment but enticement for your sense of curiosity in what will be. I'll see you there.
