Afroskull, the funk-rock superpower from New Orleans, has announced a sequel to one of the best live shows of 2000. AFROSKULL DOES BLACK SABBATH II: THE RETURN OF AFROSABBATH promises to be the foulest-tasting piece of candy in any trick or treater’s bag while shedding new light on the origins of Afroskull’s “monster funk” for many of the band’s fans. The tribute to the masters of heavy metal starts off the Halloween weekend at 11pm on Friday, October 26th, at the Mermaid Lounge in New Orleans.

AFROSKULL DOES BLACK SABBATH II will feature two sets of material (every Sabbath song from the first tribute plus several other arrangements written specifically for this occasion) performed by a beefed-up Afroskull lineup. Special guests will include trumpeter Chuck Arnold (Maynard Fergeuson Band, various local groups), percussionist Chuk Barber (Casa Samba, Jonas Risin) vocalists Chaddy 1P.U.S. (Iris May Tango) and Big John Shafer (Cosmic Arc).

The original Afroskull Does Black Sabbath show came about after Afroskull guitarist Joe Scatassa and bassist Bill Richards caught the original Sabbath lineup on tour in Biloxi early in 2000. Both were blown away by the power and yes, funkiness of Ozzy and company, and the idea for a tribute was born.

With an expanded horn section and guest vocalists, Afroskull unleashed a super-charged set of Black Sabbath arrangements on a capacity crowd at the Mermaid Lounge early last summer. Cries of “AfroSabbath!” rang through the club in between songs as the audience reveled in crushing versions of such tunes as “War Pigs” and “Black Sabbath.”

Don't be afraid, don't be scared; get your bad self to the Mermaid Lounge on October 26 and witness firsthand the unholy beauty of Afroskull deep in the Sabbath catalog.
