Of Montreal Album/Tour

Of Montreal
Of Montreal has unveiled the physical versions of its groundbreaking Skeletal Lamping Collection due out October 21 on Polyvinyl. The collection marks a first in album packaging and design, with seven different packaging formats to choose from when purchasing the forthcoming of Montreal album: A table top floral beast, a lantern, a collection of wall decals, a stallion shaped print, a collection of pins, and a clothing and tote bag line act as the Skeletal Lamping packaging instead.

Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes says of the collection, "There are many scientists who believe, that it takes months for a new born child to establish a sense of individuality. The new born doesn't make a distinction between themselves and their mother. It takes some time before a child understands that their mother is a separate entity. Upon making this discovery, initially, we are filled with a great anxiety. Of course, over time, we develop a real appreciation for our individuality, and all that it awards us. From the moment of our first 'self' discovery, until our death, we develop, discard and rebuild our sense of identity countless times. We all do this, even boring people. Once we've established a comfortable self-sense of our current identity, we want to parade it. We want to campaign for it. We want the whole world to know, 'look look, this is me, how you like me now?.' To project our self identity into the outer and, to amplify the howl of our self expression, we have many tools at our disposal; our art, our clothing and hair style, the way we talk... and, for a lot of us, the objects that populate our living spaces. There are myriad vendors, attempting to contribute to our identity campaigns, creating rather dull and uninspiring products. Making the production of any new objects, at this point, almost seem criminal. In reaction to this, we unveil, the Skeletal Lamping Collection 08."

damnit, some people just the need to start a thread with bad vibes. space cadet travis yo, what they said, even if it sounds 'fagish' to you, is actually a good point. example: your mission to add a new band to your profile everyday refines your identity by relating it to other things (in this case, music).... have you ever seen these guys live? it's electronic-based dance music with one of the most psychedelic stage setup i've seen in a live show. of course these guys are weird, but clearly some people like them, because they've been successful for over a decade. they've been able to convey their message through a bunch of albums, some which could be called experimental pop masterpieces. i'm very confident this band has more fans than you; i know i'd rather see this band again than meet you for the first time, given your attitude. have you been successful for a decade? have you gotten your message, whatever it is (in this case a message of intolerance towards 'fagish' things) out to the world as much as these guys have? if you can't say anything nice or make your criticism constructive, why the hell would you say anything at all?!

Well I like Of Montreal alright. I saw them live once and it was a solid, high-energy show. Funny comment about "faggishness", I'm pretty sure Kevin Barnes is gay so, there that is. Um, I don't know why that necessarily has negative connotations but, these guys are from AthensmuthafuckinGeorgia also home of WidespreadmuthafuckinPanic and R.E.muthafuckin'M, they have a sound personal, compassionate investment in their music and aren't try to pull an image on anyone. Good tunes, different, exploratory, can't complain.

I don't know much about these guys, but I must say the photo sparks a certain curiosity. However, the Kevin Barnes "Me, Me, Me...all about me and my identity, bla, bla" sounds fake and juvenile. It sounds like a scripted quote to convince the fans how dark and analytical they are. I hope their music is better than their outstretched, generic philosophy. Congrats! You're a self-analyzing, emotional human being like the rest of us! Now shut up and play some damn music!

i use my time here finding ways to trick briank67 into doing a psychoanalysis of my internet personality, on a daily basis. if i can cause you to use that much thought to bash my comments, i have truly won once again.

Hey all you High school jam kids need to get a life. I hate to tell you but you missed out on any real community in jam music..its all regurgitated shit.....You never saw the real Phish, Panic Sucks now, and everyone else is watered down...Atleast Of Montreal is doing something new...Do yourselves a favor kids and ditch your jam CD's and learn to like new music. You kids have no identity.

yeah, they are kind of androgynous, but who cares?

the music's interesting, and extremely catchy...

how long did it take all of you homophobes to come around to prince?

(i didn't notice one negative comment on this week's sunday spin)

i think their idea of packaging this album is BRILLIANT!

how cool is it to get an amazing piece of physical art in addition to a new album.

props to 'em.

I saw these guys at Rothbury. I went to check them out on Panic's set break and never came back to Panic. Cool visuals and a very psychedelic sound (live anyways, I've never listened to their albums). They create some very layered music. People on this site defenitly need to open up their minds a little more. I know not every band JB reports on is everyones flavor, but just don't put down something before you listen first. If I jugded PHISH by a picture of them before I listened, I might take Fish in his little dress the wrong way. Know what I mean?
