Galactic Brass Tacks Tour

Headlining Fall Tour Begins October 8 Following Summer of Festival Appearances

Kicking off in Athens GA on October 8, Galactic's Brass Tacks Tour will be turning up the heat just in time to warm up cooling U.S. cities this fall. Honing their legendarily high energy live funk show by touring non-stop, the talented New Orleans five-piece spent the summer playing festivals in Europe, Japan and the U.S., including stops at Outside Lands in San Francisco and Austin City Limits in Texas.

Their acclaimed 2007 release From the Corner to the Block featured a who's who of underground MC's, including Lyrics Born, Juvenile, Chali 2na and Boots Riley, and the critics cheered. Rolling Stone called the release "a call to get down when you've had it up to here with everything else," while the BBC raved "it's hard to imagine a more succinct display of old Orleans brass and New Orleans bounce." Harp magazine gushed, "a singular musical achievement. Almost every tune is a hip-hop classic, welding vibrant storytelling, strong voices and agile wordplay to a rhythmic and melodic genius that is simply galactic."

On the Brass Tacks Tour, Galactic will be accompanied by the Crown City Rockers from Oakland CA, along with two very special guests and NOLA superstars Shamarr Allen on trumpet and Corey Henry on trombone. This marks the first time Galactic has toured with a horn section, which will be an exciting addition to an already stellar live performance. One of the most entertaining, exciting and accomplished bands making music today, Galactic and their Brass Tacks tour will be a not-to-be-missed dance party.

Umm, you forgot The Orange Peel in Asheville on Oct.22 and Charlotte and Charleston. These dates are definitely part of the Brass Tracks Tour. Don't trust this listing. There are a ton more dates.

Last time I saw Galactic (at the Filmore in Denver last February), absolute the onslaught of rappers ruined the show. I wanted to hear the funk, instead we got two-bit hack rappers at the forefront while Galactic's musical prowess faded into background, literally. I will only see Galactic again if there is an explicit promise that no rappers will be there.

They were right on track for another Halloween show at Stubb's and then... nothin. Kinda bummed about that. I guess a short set at ACL will suffice. It sounds like they're on their game for this tour.

Galactic is so funk'd up. Stanton Moore is amazing and completely throws down for a live performance. I have seen them numerous times and I think sometimes the crowds energy brings down the show... maybe it was on a week night but who cares get on the floor and shake it people! See you at the Crystal

I hate to be the second Coloradan bitching but...

We get the last few shows with MC's then get skipped on the tour with the horn section? I know. We're spoiled stupid here. Hell, I like Chali 2na. But as a Galactic fan, I'm really sick of the corner to the block tours. At least with Houseman out front, they weren't reduced to repetitive beats. Personally, I like dancing every song not two on, two off.

Yeah they are also showing SF love at the Fillmore on 11/14 and 11/15. Don't miss Crown City Rockers on this tour! I was just hangin out the other night with their drummer Max in Oakland. Max is the shit on the kit and also plays with my friends sick funk band in Oakland called The Greasetraps. Check out that band as well if you like the gritty rare groove funk that will keep you movin.

I actually thought those Denver Fillmore shows with the MC's were really good. Different stuff, and they still brought the funk when the MC's stepped out. Either way, it was a hell of a show for something like 25 bucks!

In response to phishr82. I maintain my opinion about the Fillmore show. I just am not a rap/hip-hop fan at all so i was super disappointed. The first two songs Galactic played were hot, but then came the parade of MCs killing any funky flow to show (IMHO). MC's were definitely on stage for at least 60% of the show. For what it's worth though, it seemed like everyone in attendance (except for me and friends) were absolutely digging the MC's, knew who they all were and knew all the words to the songs. Meanwhile we were standing there clueless and yelling "we want the funk!". Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I agree that the rappers took away from Galactic when I saw them. I grew up on hip hop and love it, but not with my Galactic please. Those guys can blow your head off, and the rappers make them restrain some of that. It was cool for them to try something different and tour it, but now get back to what we all love....that dirty-ass funk! Can't wait to hear the addition of the trombone and trumpet!

Crown City Rockers are indeed good. I saw them open up for Digable Planets a couple of years back. The Dallas show is supposed to be with Ozomatli. I hope they haven't dropped off this tour.

i have to say the show at jazzfest w/ chali 2na was f'n sick. the show was still only about a third hiphop related tunes and that was in a 75 minute time slot. the 2na songs were not strictly from the record and they only did one jurassic 5 song. the rest of the show they funked it down like always. i have no problem with that.

I'm only going if no rappers. They SUCKED at Vegoose 06 and Jam Cruise 07 with rappers. Otherwise they are the funkin sheet. Its like night and day - totally awesome and totally suck (with rappers)

I agree with ShackCA. I'v seen Galactic at least 10 times in the last few years, and although I can appreciate them trying something new and creative with the "hip-hop" album, live it was kind of a total let-down. I hope they stick to the jazz/funk sound that they have produced so well in the last few years. ALSO, I miss HOUSE MAN. and where the hell is a Chicago date ? ? ?

I am agreeing with most of you, Fuck the "Corner to the block" tour. I saw them in Phily roughly a year ago and they had Boots and Mr. Lif for a bit - and then Chali for at least half the show and it was sick. But then after I saw them 2-3 more times on that tour, it got real old real fast. The icing on the cake was Mt. Jam when they got the friday late night slot and bored us all with hack rappers. Chali is the only rapper on that tour worth seeing, but he wasn't on the mountain - and neither was any fans - crowd was almost empty by the end. These guys are the shit- My personal Fav - and I'm glad they're shedding the 'underground' rappers for some brass horns. I can not wait. Galactic - back to the basics!!!

Chali 2na is one of the illest emcees in the game. hes got mad skill, keeps it positive, and has one of the illest deliveries ever. The Verbal Herman Munster!

Galactic as everyone knows is completely sick.

the two are some of my favorite types of music. BUT- ive got to agree about the tour. it was ok, but the two genres did not blend will together. the emcees took away from the funk, and the funk was too loud to hear the emcees (at least at the paradise in MA it was).

the best way to blend jambands and hiphop is with turntabalism. a la DJ Logic. MMW. The Harlem Experiment. things like that.

Hello all, for your fill of funk (rappers not included), there's another band that came out of the same scene in New Orleans you might wanna check, the Part-time Hoodlums. They're playing tonight in NYC at a place called the Parkside Lounge. Check out they're myspace, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I saw this show in Athens Georgia, and they were great as usual. I wish I got there earlier because Crown City Rockers was AMAZING, but I only caught the 2nd half of their show. Their album is great too (I picked it up, and listened to it twice on the way home). Go see Galactic and GET THERE EARLY!!!
