I overheard part of a conversation recently in which someone said, "rock is dead." This person didn't think there's anything exciting going on in that genre but I beg to differ. RANA has taken the guts of rock and made it their own through a well practiced approach they call "stretching." What fills that stretch is completely subjective to the night as RANA is known to come out differently every show. Will it be some hard core banging with deviled fingers in the air or jammy improv? Will the gig emphasize the lyrics more or the instrumentation? No need to respond because all answers will be given in hearty doses of energized ROCK N ROLL on August 30th when the band hits the main stage at Wetlands Preserve for the last time.

Wetlands is closing on September 15th so next Thursday night bears special significance as we party onward. The club has nurtured and developed many acts over the 13 years it's been around and RANA is one of the latest to come out through that love. Love of people like Wetlands promoter/booking agent Flaco Dominguez (aka Jake Szufnarowski) who's sure to provide some interesting moments of his own being that the 30th is his birthday. There's no better gift you can give him than a visit to say thank you for all the fun you've had at Wetlands the last few years.

2 Skinnee Js and the female fronted AC/DC tribute band Dirt Cheap will set things up on the main stage while, in the lounge, Bon Jovi cover band Bad Medicine and power trio Lisa Christ Superstar will throw down the gauntlet to see just how much harder the upstairs acts can bring it.

The last time RANA played Wetlands, we (and they) thought it would be the last time they'd get to play in the room that's meant so much to them. The band poured every bit of themselves out through their instruments and voices. After two full sets and four encores (one of which turned into a third set) no one wanted to leave the joy that still resonated in the room. For a dirt cheap fee of $10, coming down to rock out with Jake & RANA next Thursday is an easy way to have a great time.
