As previously reported, Mike Gordon's new solo album, The Green Sparrow is set for an August 5 release via Rounder Records. The Green Sparrow showcases his wide range of influences in a winning 10-track album.

A rewarding year and a half of work went into The Green Sparrow. An artist known for his endless creativity and touring stamina, Mike took 2007 off from touring and dedicated his time to writing this record. His efforts yielded a vibrant new solo album full of accessible songs and unmistakable creations of Gordon's playfully idiosyncratic musical mind. He worked mainly at his home studio in Vermont, but also forayed to New York's Electric Lady Studios for additional recording and Trey Anastasio's rural Vermont studio, The Barn, for mixing.

The Green Sparrow features special guests Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell, Bill Kreutzmann (The Grateful Dead), Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones), Ivan Neville and horn players from Antibalas.

From the deeply rooted funk of "Radar Blip" to the rousing intricacies of "Andelmans' Yard," from the spirited rock of "Traveled Too Far" to the punch of "Another Door," The Green Sparrow is a playful album from an artist who continually reveals new layers of far-reaching invention.

1. Another Door
2. Voices
3. Dig Further Down
4. Pretend
5. Traveled Too Far
6. Andelmans' Yard
7. Radar Blip
8. Morphing Again
9. Jaded
10. Sound

This is VERY exciting! I am happy to hear Mike's album and see him live. I love new music, especially from an artist I respect and I have a feeling this will sound great. I wish this Jambase article had a link for a few examples of these songs. I want to hear it. Live music is so great these days, I am excited. That Chicago show is going to be GREAT. I realized Derek Trucks plays in Chicago at The Vic theater two days after Mike's band plays Chicago, and there are no other Derek Trucks shows before this "epic" show, so he will probably be there with Mike!! Chicago is one of the most amazing cities I've ever been, and anyone who can save up some money to fly or drive or take Amtrak to Chicago to catch music will have an awesome time! Hotels are really expensive in Chicago but there are a few hostels that are cheap. And honestly, this is going to be a sick concert on September 4th!! Mike is friends with Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart and Trey and Page and The Duo and A lot of other people.... Awesome...

Wow, Mike at the Ironhorse, tiny, great pub - ducats on sale 6/13. Can't wait for that. All Good and GOTV as well. Then back in Beantown in Sept. I've dug mikes work outside of Phish more so than any of the others work. Nice indeed.

Yeah, but he's a pervert, Dude.

The Dude: Yeah.

Walter Sobchak: No, he's a sex offender. With a record. He served 6 months in Chino for exposing himself to an eight year old.

The Dude: Oh!

Walter Sobchak: When he moved to Hollywood he had to go door to door to tell everyone he was a pederast.

Donny: What's a... pederast, Walter?

Walter Sobchak: Shut the fuck up, Donny

"Horrid slop with Leo Kottke.." Are you kidding me? Maybe he is not rock and roll or jam enough for your tastes, fine, but Leo Kottke is a living legend in the guitar world and has been for forty years. I think the songwriting and playing on their two studio releases is excellent, really nice fidelity, Mike sounds great, inspired.

I could not disagree with you more, bonnaroo to wherever.
