NIN Give The Slip For Free

NINE INCH NAILS THE SLIP
First ever completely free full album download available now at NIN.com

Trent Reznor to Fans: "Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years. This one's on me."

Nine Inch Nails
As of 12:01 a.m. PST on May 5, Nine Inch Nails' brand new full length album The Slip is available as free download at NIN.com.

Unlike NIN's recently released Ghosts I-IV, there are NO paid options available for The Slip, nor are there any retail partners. At present, The Slip is available exclusively as a free download at NIN.com. A physical configuration on CD and vinyl is in the works for a July release.

The Slip marks the first time Nine Inch Nails - or any artist of NIN's stature - has made its new album available completely and exclusively for free as a DRM-free digital download. The Slip is available as a high-quality MP3 or in a variety of lossless formats including, for the first time, a higher-than-CD quality 24 bit 96k version. All downloads include a PDF with credits and artwork.

Like the free single "Discipline" released last week to terrestrial radio stations and their websites and the track "Echoplex" appearing on iLike, The Slip is a classic straightforward NIN album, featuring Trent Reznor on vocals and various instruments as well as Josh Freese, Robin Finck and Alessandro Cortini. The record was produced by Reznor, Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder. Art direction by Rob Sheridan.

As with previous Nine Inch Nails releases Year Zero and Ghosts I-IV, the complete multi-track files to The Slip will be available free at launch, allowing anyone who wants to create his or her own remixes and reinterpretations of the songs. As always, the Remix.NIN.com community will provide a sire and infrastructure for fans to upload, share, stream and download these various remixes as well as the original masters, all free of charge or restrictions.

The Slip, like Ghosts I-IV, is being released under a Creative Commons license, allowing fans to distribute the songs and files freely and without fear of copyright infringement.

Although not a huge NIN fan this make Bob Weir look even worst for his comments about not wanting to make an album because of file transfers. Way to go NIN

Not sure what "or any artist of NIN's stature" is supposed to represent, but NIN certainly isn't first as most of you all know .... Radiohead, of course, but also Big Head Todd & Monsters did this as well. Both eventually released a hard copy for sale in retail. I know that BHTd doesn't have the "stature" of either of the other two acts, but it does seem more and more acts are trying this type of delivery. Anybody know of any other acts that have dropped a new release on fans this way? It's certainly a fun time to be watching where music distribution is going?

Not a big fan of NIN's music, but this is a helluva feat. I have a newfound respect for these guys that I never thought I would have. It's so cool that a band would collectively decide to do something like this, especially considering all the recent artists' bitching and moaning and whining about this new technological age. Thanks NIN and other bands who've done the same things, this is promotionally progressive as hell and a slap in the face to all those other whiners.

radiohead gave the public the option to download for free or to pay what ever price they wanted to. i think that is why nin is the first to "completely and exclusively" offer a free album. and what does the band the slip have to do with this anyway?...

This is awesome. Couldn't be happier with the direction that Trent Reznor has been going with the marketing and distribution of his music.

For anyone interested in good, free and legal album downloads, you can get "Taking Up Your Precious Time" by Pretty Lights at http://prettylightsmusic.com/ - they'll be melting faces at the Mish with The New Deal on May 31 one night after George Clinton and P-Funk. Can't wait!

Sweet...The Slip is an amazing band. That's cool of Reznor to pay tribute to a better band with his new album.

siiick....i like NIN but the last couple albums were kinda slacking...didnt hear the ghost stuff though...so since its free i guess thats good. trent must know deep inside that people would be pissed if they had to pay for this...but i havent even heard it yet so i really shouldnt pass judgement. but if it's anything like year zero you couldn't pay me to listen to it....when he tours he does lots of older material mixed in with the new which kicks assss...trent reznor can put on one hell of a show...ill be moshing n gettin my nose broke (again!!!) at great woods in mass(i would say the tweeter but some other corp. got the rights now)

Not only free, but you can choose from WAVE, MP3 (VBR - not shitty 128 or 160 like Radiohead did), FLAC or M4A. That's customer service for ya!

Anb Bobby isn't going to cut an album because people will steal it, he won't because his creative juices ran dry long ago. Corinna? Picasso Moon?

Got to see Trent at Bridge School a couple years ago. He absolutely blew me away. Wasn't really expecting much, maybe thats why, but he played with a six piece (or so) string section and he was playing piano. Amazing. As for studio music being free, REDEYE--why would anyone be pissed at having to pay money for a studio album? Live music should always be free. Studio music is another matter completely. I'm sure NIN's stuff was recorded in their own studio, but most bands dont have that luxury. Nor do they have the luxury of putting out music without a music label paying for their studio time, engineers, producers, etc. Who cares about Bob Weir's studio album anyway. What, after 35 years, he finally cares about a studio album? He should be hated on for pulling all the Dead stuff from etree sites like archive.org.

New news... The Slip are releasing a free album called "Nine Inch Nails" !

Honestly I could care less about NIN's music but the music geek in me loves the fact that they are giving out free 96KHz/24 bit files.

This just in: "slip" was actually a word before some indie Boston band chose it for its moniker, and uhh I'm pretty sure they haven't copyrighted the word yet so the fact that NIN named its new album "The Slip" really shouldn't be that confusing to you, seeing as how most of you at least seem to speak a reasonably coherent amount of English.

No you don't get it..."The Slip" is a band and now this other band is pretending to be Nine Inch Nails, while going under the same name as their previous albums.
