Joining The Roots are Gnarls Barkley, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Santogold, Deerhoof, J*Davey, Diplo, Esperanza and The Cool Kids. In addition, don’t miss The Roots live on Comedy Central’s “Night of Too Many Stars.” Hosted by Jon Stewart, this star packed special will be televised LIVE from The Beacon Theatre in New York City on Sunday, April 13 at 8:00 p.m. EST. The band then heads back to Philadelphia to appear on The Colbert Report on April 15 as he covers the Pennsylvania primaries. On April 28, The Roots hit The Late Show with David Letterman to perform “Rising Up.”
The Roots will be touring non-stop this year including dates supporting Erykah Badu and a headline appearance at America’s largest Earth Day celebration – the Green Apple Festival 2008 – at the National Mall in Washington, DC. The band will be joined by friends Chrisette Michelle, Will.i.am, Doug E. Fresh and Neyo. Additional festivals include All Points West, Summerfest and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The Roots are set to release their highly-anticipated tenth album, Rising Down, on April 29 via Def Jam Recordings. Known for their prolific lyrics and live instrumentation, the Legendary Philadelphia crew is composed of Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter (vocals), Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson (drums), Kamal Gray (keyboards), Frank Knuckles (percussion), Kirk “Captain Kirk Douglas (guitar) and Owen Biddle (bass).
