JamBase | Europe Go See Live Music!
nothing left to do but finish that album
go fuck yourself ganja, you bandwagon assclown. nice name too, bitch. sounds like a 15-year old wanna-be hippie
I have a non fish eye lens the photographer can have.
wish i was there. BISCUIT LOVE!!!!
This is a great pictorial, Bisco got super heavy in Europe!
Ganjasmoker you're ignorant!
why is gutwig always sitting down now?
hurt his foot, been sittin down for the past few shows. i dont mind it that much, he played pretty good at the HG shows
if Jon didn't give a shit he wouldn't have been in europe with a fucked up leg touring and he wouldn't be flying back to do a northeast run the next week. Just got back from those shows by the way and it was a great time. The inverted Morph spread out across thursday and friday was definitely the highlight for me. Worcester is gonna be fun tonight.
By the way, quick note on Higher Ground, it was my first time there and the staff are total assholes! I was amazed considering the shows that have gone down there.
^You mean dyslexic morph.(sorry i had to do it)
Fun pics..wish i coulda been there
suspended in the air...dont you feel better?
dont need to see pics of them getting off the airplane but that bayliss smoke pic is ill
whats with Aaron being in the front of each pic...some are kind of corny
I love bisco, but those pictures of the band are corney, and it looks like the venues were really small and not very many people showed up. I wouldn't think they would have a huge international following. But I would have liked to be there.
no reason for there to be a big international for bands such as bisco when house, techno etc. is the predominant music
moethug...i definitely agree...very cool picture
hahahaha yea dyslexic, my bad
Jon is the best guitarist playing today. He is one of the few guys. when he hits it the groove is Santana-esque. Anyone who thinks he can't play must be stupid or a DJ too lazy to learn an instrument. because that cat can straight play. who's better? people used to try to say that Trey couldn't play because they didn't dig Phish. That was BS also. JOn is great.
I go to show after show and The Disco Biscuits are one of the few bands that take it to another level. They NEVER would get there without an amazing Guitar player. Bisco only has 4 guys. Their sound more than fills the room. You ever notice that Jonny sits back and lets his band set a groove and then when he comes in the whole thing gets taken to another level. Jon is the thing that turns the Biscuits from a great ambient trance sound to absolutely transcending music on the edge. From a rave to an acid trip. From repetition to psychedelia
Jonny Rules and It makes me sick to see posers on this site try to say anything else. Sister Please.
I don't care what anyone says I think the Biscuits kick ass. I've seen them 25 time in the past two years and have been blown away way more then half of the shows. I do agree with bigfro in someways however I don't think that Jon is the best around though. But this is deff. a band that pushes the limits. Sometimes they just don't play well. And i'm ok with that not every band is gonna go out everynight and play great shows everytime. But when these guys hit their stride and are on I think they play on the same level as Phish, SCI, Umph, WSP. Yes that was bold but I don't give a shit. Ask any Biscuit Kid and they will say the same thing. Say what you want about the scene and the fans but every scene has bad vibes to it. Phish and the Dead had a ton of shadyness but no one seems to bitch about that. I've seen way more shadyness in Phish lot and Phil lot then any of the 25 Biscuits shows I've gone to. I got to stick up for this band on here cause there are only a few of us that do....Ok lets hear the shit storm that will surly follow this comment
why the minus three for big fro, i droped it and read it cuz sometimes i amuse myself w/ the bisco hate, AND I TOTALLY AGREE W/ BIGFROS COMENTS ABOUT BARBER. HES THE FUCKING MAN AND I ALMOST WISH HE WOULD STAND OUT MORE. anyway biscuits are the shit and people who read articles about bands they dont like obviously arent the highest of quality people
peace
There always seems to be this huge debate about Jon's guitar playing abilities. Unlike bigfro I would go as far as to say that Jon is the BEST giging guitarest, he can certainly hold his own. I personaly fing Jake and Luther's guitar work far more impressive than Jon's, but I do give Jon credit for is inovation. He has been able to create a very unique sound and style that works very well with a band that is just as inovative, and it works for him. He does'nt have all the flair of some of the most prolific guitarists but in my opinion, when i watch Barber work his fingers up and down that fret board, he is defiantly a very accoplished guitarest and musician.
Can't stand the fish-eye lens... unless used modestly, no one ever does.
always seems to be this huge debate about Jon's guitar playing abilities.
I have no argument, he is the REASON I like this band. Only his playing, and thats it. I think his style is cool and I enjoy it. nuff said. peace.
my issue with the biscuits isn't their skills as musicians, anyone with half a brain can see that they're all accomplished and by all accounts standouts in the music industry, no one gets to the level they're on without being top-notch musicians. my issue is that i always feel like they're playing it safe, and could always really take it one step farther. before this draws the ire of bisco-kids everywhere, i'm not trying to rag on the biscuits, its just that every show of theirs has left me wanting a little bit more. barber's a great guitarist, i don't know if i'd call him a virtuoso though. put him up against derek trucks or jimmy herring and, forgive me, but he'd be out of his league. on the flipside though, if you stuck derek or jimmy in with the biscuits and tried to get them to play along it would sound like dogshit. barber's got his own style that sounds perfect with their music, so just let it be at that. brownie's one of my favorite bassists out there and magner's fuckin phenomenal. so just let TDB be what they're gonna be, and if you don't like what they're doin don't listen.
Assaults on Johnny are just the inferiority complex of many club kids. Jonny is the best in my opinion. I love the combo of Jake and Brendan as much. I love Trey as much. Some of you might not agree, but to bag me because I dig someone's guitar playing is as silly as saying Jon can't play at all. I feel Bisco taking risks constantly is why they sometimes fall flat. WHEN THEY GET IT RIGHT, IT IS TRANSCENDENT. The Dead were the same way and Phil Lesh to this day calls Barber the closest modern player to the "Group Mind" philosophy of Jerry. Ownership has it's privileges and I own my opinion Jon rules. Alan has brought the band back from the dead . They were lost for a few years when Sammy was quitting. I feel many of you former fans who haven't seen Allen still slinging the same old barbs, but this band is a true fusion psychadelic band. No posing, no Indie rock BS. The pix show their sense of humor and the lack of humor of many of you folks. Bisco rules, oh yes They will reign supreme HA ha ha!!
Jon is a great guitar player. Very creative and has his own unique style. But when it comes to pure technical skill, he is nowhere near the top. I can think of many guitar players from jam bands that can blow him out of the water. But anyway, great pics especially the Bayliss smoking one. Ordering tickets in a few days to see Bisco for the first time this summer. Can't wait.
Digging on someones guitar playing is cool no matter what if htats what you like. Music is about taste. But to say someone is the best guitarist gigging takes it to a whole different level. Jon's tone is perfect for the band. Not hating on him, but to put him on level with some of the greatest guitarists alive is one of the most exagerated overstatements I have ever heard even on this site. There are literally 100's of guitarists with more advanced techincal chops. Here is just a few for perspective: Buckethead, Pat Metheny, Satraini, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Zack Wylde, Jimmy Page, Kirk Hammet, UM (both of them), Clapton, Santana, Niles Cline, Steve Morse, Eddie Van Halen..........On and on and on
That takes nonthing away from the DB's they got the party going on and Jon does kick ass if thats what you are into. But lets not get carried away.
i love the pic of the half empty gig with the guy more interested in his cell phone than the band. looks like fun! bisco sucks and those cheesy pics dont help out at all.
Wow Sleewell that was a intelligent post. I wish I could have been there!!
The only one getting carried away is blower with his list of forgettable names that 90% of you would never do a whole tour with. Even Madonna can be good once every three years clones but you can go see Bisco 20 nights in a row and be wowwed. Go see Buckethead play the same set every night and see how quick you get off tour
Bigfro is talking about guitarists that jam blower. Steve Vai plays the record. Zach wilde can't hold Jon's piss. There are only players as good as Jon in a different way, but Jerry is gone folks so stop begging with this lame stuff., . It doesn't take skill to play the same set every night for 100 nights. It takes skill to change it up. You risk being called average by perfectionist by going for something big that might not work instead of playing it safe like techno geek Satriani. Stop the madness.
I believe Jon is f-cking great and none of you kids will force me to feel different. He goes for it every night and can play anything. TO me Guitar is about improvising. Satriani has perfect tone and pitch and technical but bores me. Jon can make up orchestras playing a thousand miles an hour. Why is it so important for so many of you to feel superior to Jon. I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO THINK HE IS THE BEST. I'm in good company with Bigfro.
JoN smokes Jimmy Herring, his little band WSP, and their alcoholic follwing. Warren is as good. Trey could be as good if he played with Phish. Jeff Beck, please maybe for 3 years about 20 years ago. Clapton is past his prime. Santana on a good night, Steve Vai, Please maybe when he plays with David Lee ROTH .JAke and Brendan as a team can match him. Jon technically can blow away most guitar players I see. and the other half play like STS9 and never fully let go for the sake of being perfect. Music is interactive. It is about feeling the audience and reflecting emotion. Keeping the crowd up is more important than playing the record perfect. Bisco and Jon have no problem throwing away the blueprint to keep the crowd dancing. These technical guys have no problem losing the audience to j--k off the album.
^The Truth Hurts
"Clapton is past his prime."
I had to fwd that to a few people and we are all cracking up. I'll admit that his song writing skills are not what they were, but when it comes to playing guitar, he would make these second rate kids his bitch and they would be honored to wipe his ass.
Yea, I wouldn’t follow a whole Clapton tour. BFD. Then again, I have a life to life and I’m not a “follower” in the first place.
Photos are cheeze. "Hey - a London phone booth. We are Dr. Who."
Jon more technically skilled than Jimmy Herring. That's funny. I love the Disco Biscuits but there's no way possible you can say that.
"jon more technically skilled than jimmy herring" hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha (catching my breath) hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha wait wait "CLAPTON PAST HIS PRIME?!?!?!" I'm sorry, i know my first post was all nice, but barber would have to sell his soul to even know how to play as well as clapton does on his worst night.
Yea saying that Jon is more skilled than Jimmy Herring and that Clapton is past his prime are two of the funniest things I've ever heard on this site. You must know nothing about guitar playing. Jon is great don't get me wrong. His style is unique and great and he is a perfect fit for Bisco. A great guitarist in his own right. But he's definitely nowhere near the most technically skilled jam band guitarist. Trucks, Haynes, Herring, Cinninger, Bayliss, Trey, Jerry, Luther, Josh Clark, Nershi, Karan, etc. all own him in tech skill but they would all sound like shit playing with Bisco.
yeah saying he's more skilled than some of those people is ridiculous, however I feel like at some point in his playing or maybe from the very beginning he decided that creating his own style of playing was more important than pursuing technical proficiency. Yes Kando you are right about most of those players but imo he has a more original style than all but 2 or MAYBE 3 of those and that his style is equally as original as those 2 or 3. That's why *I* revere what he has done as guitar player more than just about anybody else. I just hate it when people start throwing around qualitative words without specifying what they mean *cough* Jack17 *cough*. Saying he smokes Jimmy Herring is just silly, however, I would say he is more unique than Jimmy Herring and therefore I enjoy his playing more.
well put.
"Jon can make up orchestras playing a thousand miles an hour."
bwahahaha i think you probably meant "symphonies" rather than "orchestras", even so it still sounds ridiculous.
jon is very good and has a unique style.
clapton is NOT past his prime, he actually sounds better now than he did when he was wasted all the time.
lot of knowledge being dropped in this thread LOL
