moe. To Take A Break

Tucked into moe.'s email newsletter this past Tuesday was this statement:

"After moe.down, moe. will not be playing any more shows for some time. The band is taking a break with the intent of returning again in 2009."

The note also announced, "This summer, moe. will embark on one of its biggest summer tours to date. The band intends to spend most of June and July on the road. The tour will begin at Summer Camp and wind down in early August. moe. will finish out the summer at moe.down 9 in Turin, NY."

The exact dates of the summer tour and this year's moe.down have not been revealed but moe's Summer Camp 2008, taking place May 23-25 in Chillicothe, IL, just added the New Pornographers, Girl Talk, Mifune, The PMG, Sub-ID and Waterstreet have been added to the bill.

This is a well deserved break for a band that has been on tour for 19 years without a solid break and has pumped out two albums in the last year. It won't be a long break, my guess is they'll be back in time for a multi-night run in ATL next Spring or Summercamp. moe. rox.

The multitudes of rock bands that populate the radio-airwaves certainly DON'T tour constantly. Most bands DON'T tour non-stop. This is only a story because some folks expect moe. to never stop touring. So they want some time... There's no reason to think they will have"lost it" after they come back. I'd bet they'll be refreshed and ready to jam some more. Wasn't it just last year they did a tour with the Allman Brothers... they aren't gonna quit when they can get gigs like that.

moe. is one of the best jam bands in the scene right now. They are road warriors and put on awesome festivals. They are conscious and socially involved by raising funds for Katrina, autism, and various other worthwhile organizations including headcount. moe.down 9 is going to be divine! Okayalright.

does everybody feel better about themselves for bashing bands on here? So what if moe isnt your favorite band, they are still a band who is very popular among this scene, and in my opinion, can tear it up pretty good. I didnt loose sleep when widespread went on a hiatus or sci, but i dint get on here and use a hiatus as a reason to tell everyone im not a fan. If you dont like moe, or any band for that matter, cool, keep it to yourself! Don't hate, c'mon, arent we all about peace and happyness.

Being from Buffalo, and having seen moe. a few times, I would have to say that this is not a big deal. I mean, their music, while it is full of energy and danceble (I would rate Recreational Chem. up thier amongst my fav songs to hear live.), after a while I lose interest. I just don't feel the same intensity and showmanship as I do from the bigname Jam acts. I view them as a bar band... one of the best bar bands ever. Enough said. MoeDown this year will be a neccesity. I hope they bust out a better lineup than last Down.

I just saw them in knoxville,tn on may 1st and they did play like they were a little tired. For example they would tease a song like "meat" without ever really getting to the song or a solid jam. However, they did finish 2nd set with a 30 minute buster > meat which was sick! They deserve a break, they've been touring almost since phish started and we all know they already gave up.

As for moe. and this story... They are good, just inconsistant. Check out "Tin Cans, Car Tires" They got it right. 1/2 live, 1/2 studio hybrid... Trying their hand at the "Frank" production technique. They need more STRONG material. Rely too much on a handfull of songs. Seen them live about a dozen times since 97' Like I said, they're alright. They need to be more focused, less pot.

Who could deny that Moe hastalent. I don't understand some of the negativity. I really like the wit and humor some posters are using to battle against the chronic haters, some of the hidden comments in my opinion don't deserve the negative votes. This post is about the Moe article but I want to broaden the perspective and address the haters on this piece on the Wavy Gravy piece and jambase haters in general. What is your fucking damage yuo whiny pussies. Are you guys doing this to entertain eachopther or are you really small minded hateful negative losers who sit on your ass all day and shit on the hard work that all these bands and individuals do. Everytime I saw Moe people were having fun. I know Wavy and he's cools as shit. What have some of you hateful fucksticks ever contributed to the world aside from your unending criticism and chronic negativity. This is a website about music right? Where does all the bullshit and insulting commentary come from. I don't hide behind a silly screen name and hurl insults at hard workign artists and the fans who write in to support artist they appreciate. To all you positive and witty jambase folks keep up the good work, overcome hate with humor. To all you nimbleminded haters go to a hate site and post your small minded mastabatory meaningless drivel elsewhere, you are only exposing yuorselves as negative dickheads with nothing better to do than try to bring others down.

They are pretty cool guys too who have probably eaten more than their share of Ramen noodles, slept on frat house bedroom floors, gotten fucked by asshole clubowners, driven around in countless crappy vans and cars, eaten 10,000 shitty road meals, etc. So exhale your bonghit and show some respect.

This year was the first year I ever went to a NYE show and I'm glad I went to see these guys. If I had the money, I would have seen Claypool or STS9 instead but moe. was the best bet in the NY area. I feel like i said this but,

Most of moe. are married and have children. I really think touring is inturrupting thier home life. So maybe this break is what moe. needs.

and maybe Rob can catch up on his sleeping also (which i do not think that happend at all).

moe. has earned the right to sit near the top of "Jamband Mountain." Those of you who don't think so...well yer just fuckin' clueless. If you don't like them, or haven't seen them, oh well but their influence and contribution to this scene is UNDENIABLE and PERMANENT. I have always considered moe. to be a "Hit or Miss" band. Sometimes they're on and sometimes they are not. I just saw them in Austin and they were on! Iexpect that they will really try to go out with a bang while others that have gone down this same road have gone out with a whimper. What was distrurbing was seeing them backstage during the show. Chuck looked great, but Al and especially Rob looked VERY tired (putting it nicely.) DO NOT miss them on this tour as they are rockin hard and with the nature of the Hiatus (The DIRTIEST word in our community) being unknown.

You guys are a bunch of spoiled brats...

Try having a job where you are overseas every time a tour comes to your neck of the woods...

Each and every one of you should appreciate what each and every one of these artists are doing for YOU and enjoy every show you have the privilege to see...

You can't expect every show to be the "best show ever"

Every show has something good to take away from it, something you'll never see again...

And as for a "hiatus" -- These guys have families... if they come back, sweet -- if they don't come back, that's what the recordings are for... go see something different...
