The James Brown Dance Party, billed as the “funkiest all-star tribute in show business,” will headline the event. This particular lineup features musicians from the James Brown Band (drummer Robert “Mousey” Thompson), Trey Anastasio Band (horn players Jennifer Hartswick and James Casey), Pretty Lights (trombonist Scott Flynn), and founding brothers Adam Chase and Matthew Chase, as well as others who have yet to be revealed. Brooklyn-based PitchBlak Brass Band and three of New Orleans’ own –Flow Tribe, New Breed Brass Band and Papa Mali -round out the lineup.
“Last year we wanted to deliver a large-scale experience for people who love New Orleans, its music, its food, and its open-minded attitude,” said CEG founder Howie Schnee. “Our advance sellout of 3,500 tickets showed us that New Orleans music and culture is alive and well in New York City. While there are lots of concerts during the year in New York City featuring New Orleans musicians, there has been nothing quite on this scale combining the music, food, and spirit of New Orleans.”
As for the crawfish, the organizers have recruited the “Nola Crawfish King” Shaggy to create a boil with over 5,000lbs of crawfish, and the venue will feature additional Cajun food, a full bar and craft beer. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketweb.
