Martin Scorsese To Direct The Ramones Biopic

Famed director Martin Scorsese is no stranger to directing rock films over the years as he was at the helm of The Band’s The Last Waltz, the Bob Dylan documentary No Direction Home and The Rolling Stones’ concert film Shine A Light. It appears his next music-related movie will be a biopic about The Ramones, according to the co-manager of the band’s estate, Jeff Jampol.

Jampol spoke with Billboard about all the plans that are in the works to celebrate the career of The Ramones. Not only will there be a biopic, to which Scorsese is attached, but there’s also plans for a separate documentary. “We’re looking at a documentary on the Ramones, we just secured a ton of footage, much of which has never been seen before. It came from the Ramones on the road over the years in the ’70s and a little bit in the ’80s,” Jampol told Billboard.

Jampol’s remarks came on the occasion of a Johnny Ramone tribute that was held at Hollywood Forever Cemetery this past Sunday night that included an all-star concert featuring the likes of Billy Idol, Duff McKagan and Rob Zombie.

We’ll be interested to see what Scorsese has in store for the biopic, but we’re more intrigued by the documentary that will include never before seen footage.
