Widespread Panic Upstate Show Ends Early Due To Storms

It’s not easy to be a Widespread Panic in Upstate New York as the band rarely plays the area. So you had to think those fans were feeling pretty good about an opportunity to see the Georgia Rockers at Artpark in Lewiston, NY last night. However those good vibes were dampened by a deluge of rain that forced officials to cancel the show after just one set.

As noted by The Buffalo News, Panic made reference to the storms that were threatening the area in a number of first set songs including “Surprise Valley” ( “Winds whisper the trees, Mother talkin’ the water’s spirit moves, it moves through all things”), “Hatfield” (“Hatfield you made rain for L.A./ We’ve got ten grand/ For you to go cook us some rain”) and “Greta” (“Mother Nature’s gone to war, she’s in a fighting mood”). After the hour-long opening stanza the storm rolled in and venue officials urged fans to seek shelter. Eventually the decision was made by Artpark reps and the New York State Parks Police to pull the plug on the rest of the show.

Venue officials issued a statement about the cancellation and giving attendees a chance to trade their ticket for admission to select future shows at Artpark:

Due to severe weather NYS Parks Police and Artpark cancelled the Widespread Panic concert during intermission after the band played their first set. There are no plans to reschedule the concert.

Artpark is offering Widespread Panic ticket holders to trade in their tickets for a choice of Ziggy Marley & Steel Pulse (June 24), Blue Rodeo & 54-40 (July 1) OR Gregg Allman (August 12). Ticket exchange subject to availability.

Please present Widespread Panic tickets to the Artpark Box Office to exchange for one of the shows listed above. (Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Thursdays 10am-4pm)

Due to the Arctic Monkeys show tomorrow June 18, the Box Office will be experiencing high volumes, so expect delays if exchanging tickets on Wednesday June 18.

Next up for Widespread Panic is a visit to Cleveland tomorrow night.
