Full Show Friday | Phil & Phriends Featuring Trey & Page

The Phish and Grateful Dead worlds came together in a big way from April 15 -17, 1999; when Phil Lesh returned from his liver transplant to front a band he put together that featured guitarists Trey Anastasio and Steve Kimock, keyboardist Page McConnell and drummer John Molo. Most folks who we’ve talked to about these Phil & Phriends performances consider them among the best concerts they’ve ever seen, especially the first night which started off with an epic, 30+ minute “Viola Lee Blues.”

It’s hard to believe Tuesday will mark 15 years since these shows took place. We want to celebrate the anniversary by cheating a bit on the “Full Show” part of our Full Show Friday column and presenting the 98-minutes worth of video footage from April 15, 1999 that circulates. It starts with the transcendent “Viola Lee Blues” we mentioned and continues with “Big Railroad Blues,” “Row Jimmy,” “Shakedown Street” > “The Wheel” > “Not Fade Away” and “Mr. Tambourine Man.”

Viola Lee Blues 32:51
Big Rail Road Blues 7:16
Row Jimmy 8:06
Shakedown Street > Wheel > Not Fade Away 43:06
Mr. Tambourine Man 7:06
